What is ecu update recall for

I think that dates back to the very early days when the map was tweaked to reduce risk of ringland failure.................

 

Engine went on it about a year ago before i bought it

 

the software update changes a few items to do with the rev limit, throttle angle as you approach that limit and the rate at which fuelling is resumed after a fuel cut event. It was an effort to reduce the number of dead pistons they were having to replace.

 

Car has been mapped i have been told so i take it i dont need to bother doing this now

 

correcto, assuming your mapper used the new software revision to build their map (ECUTek automatically does this, OpenSource they would have to update manually before mapping) then there's no need to go back. If you do they will either refuse to update it (as you've already had it mapped) or they will overwrite your pro map with the stock map and you'll need your mapper to flash their map back on again.

 

Told me yesterday they couldn’t do the update as my battery was needing changed showing low voltage

 

low voltage would block them from doing the update - however a proper battery booster fitted to the car for the duration of the flash would have resolved that.

 

Rather than do that they wanted to charge me £244 supply and fit
