Would just like to know if anyone has any experience of this device good or bad!

The idea of the Boost Monkey is an electronic version of a manual boost controller (eg. a bleed valve or a Dawes Device). Its main claim to fame is avoiding high boost on part throttle. It also offers you the ability to vary the boost from in the cabin of the car ( saving all of the stop, bonnet up, fun of adjusting a manual boost controller), which is a benefit not just for the initial set up but taking account of varying weather conditions.

It is not a substitute for a more complicated EVC (HKS EVC or APEXi AVC-R) which have self learning modes and will accomodate changes in atmospheric conditions. However, it is a lot less dosh.

It will not avoid you hitting the fuel cut. You will still need to defend/raise this accordingly.

It will not ensure your fuelling is correct. Your car will not run as well as it would if you got a re-map (either via ECUTEK or a new ECU).

As with any form of raising boost, don't do it unless you know what you are doing and have at least a boost gauge, EGT or AFR meter.

I had some input in their design stage as they wanted to know how to drive the wastegate solenoid. In addition to what has already been said there are major weaknesses with this product. You set a throttle position where the wastegate solenoid duty cycle switches from 0% below to a set duty cycle above. So there is a step, non-progressive boost control. Besides if you set up a ball-spring MBC properly with a bleed you don't get the EGT issues the I-club guys are all crazed about.

The Boost Monkey is less frisky than a pure bleed valve on part throttle which does not suffer from the EGT issues. Their circuit is laughably easy to build yourself, but I would stick to the Dawes or the factory boost controller with a fuel cut lifter and restrictor change to get it to lift the boost curve across the range by about 2 PSI. I tried all the methods short of a remap and this last one worked the best and is by far the safest.

Dear John,

What factory boost controller?

The reason I liked the sound of the Boost Monkey is the stated
low EGT's!

The car is pretty new (1 year) and as such still carries a warranty...

If I have a EGT gauge it might start alarm bells ringing at my garage!

That's why I thought a discreet boost monkey may be a good idea.

I feel that the dawes device is a good one but even with a bleed made a EGT gauge should be fitted....

If the car is warranted and you want to keep it you can't do anything.

The Boost Monkey is easily detected.

In theory I know your right John, but how many people abide by this rule?

All I want is a little extra smiles per gallon.....

so surely there must be something that gives a little fun,
and easily removed just incase?
I'm talking sensible horsepower and driveability 250-260 ish
I still want to use the car everyday......

I'm not looking for an accelerator that acts like a switch off and on!
I had this in a G40 which was heavily modded and weightless and was just a pain in traffic!
