Question

Just wondering wether it was worth going for it on a MY00

Will they say it's down to wear and tear ??

What's the problem?

Is it the infamous clutch judder, or has your clutch worn out?

If it's clutch judder, the answer will depend on who you ask and how bad yours is.
I complained about this problem on my MY00 and was told "they all do that sir". (To be fair though, mine only does it when cold.)
I've read of others on this BBS who have had successful claims for the same problem - probably will depend on your dealer.

If your clutch has worn out, I guess it will largely depend on what mileage you've done...

Managed to get mine replaced on my MY00 Euro import, obviously in the first year. Bit of a wait but went through OK.

Push for it on warranty. I got mine done 6 months ago. MY99 33000 miles (at the time) and they said the clutch was worn out. I pointed out that even if the clutch is worn it still shouldn't judder. I made them put the claim in even though the dealer said it would be rejected. A week later I got a call saying it had been honored.

Don't back down!

I'd point out that I actually paid for the new clutch but after taking advice on here insisted that they submitted the claim even if it would be rejected....... it wasn't! Well done Subaru UK

Couple of years ago, my MY98 went in for a short engine replacement and at the point of handing over the keys I mentioned the severe clutch judder. After looking at it, they agreed and replaced the clutch and flywheel for nowt. Car was 2 years and 11 months old with 34K on the clock.

Got my clutch replaced on warranty after 9 months, but i also had a weird whirring noise as well which is why they changed it. Now got judder again and they are changing it - and they now fit the P1 plate as standard which is meant to fix the problem.

We had ours done last year due to clutch failure after we brought the car then the clutch pressure plate failing two years down the line and a nice new one fitted FOC not bad for a MY95

Wink

Be nice if Subaru would fit a decent clutch in the first place look at the cost of an AP organic clutch compared to the subaru item, something like 20 quid in it and the AP would last somewhat longer and wouldnt judder either!

had mine replaced in my old forester at 8k, dealer asked if I towed (I don't) so they said they'd change it out for nothing unless it was burnt out. It wasn't, so I was a happy bunny. Allegedly newer clutches use a different friction compound which has solved the problem, but I reckon it's the flywheel that has a high spot. No problems so far on my new forester (6k miles)
