Default Hi guys! I'm new here....

Hi everyone,

I'm new here and just wanted to introduce myself to you all! I've been browsing the forum and found it to be very good.

I'm also looking to find a 2006 Hawkeye STi TYPE UK (in black preferably) and become the proud owner of my first Scooby!

I'm looking forward to chatting with you all and listening to your views/comments.

Thank you all & thank you Scoobynet

Why uk? JDM is the better car in my opinion and also I'm not sure whether a 06 uk car will be exspensive to tax. But what ever you choose good luck and welcome.

Hi there buddy and welcome to snet.

Firstly if you find any cars you like the look at pop the link up on here and im sure the everyone will help you out and advise you on what to look for. Snet has got a few muppets on here so take some peoples views with a pinch of salt.

Whats your budget? as if you got a healthy budget to work with the jdm hawk would probably be the best option as they are more reliable insurance is no different really and tax is cheaper!! The uk 2.5 do suffer with a few big problems which you would not want as you can be looking at engine rebuilds which cost thousands. Theres a link on here saying all about them so definitely have a read of that. You will read loads of horror stories on them and not so many good stories but there are plenty of people who got the 2.5 engine that have had no issues what so ever!!!

Hope this has helped mate.

Welcome, i would go for a blob.

Read about alot of peps on here who have had engine problems with them, you may be fine, but big risk, unless its had the engine forged.

Hi Guys,

Well the JDM's are great too S204Darren but they are generally more expensive and harder to find? I've yet to find a reliable importer with a good track record, so if anyone could point me in the right direction.

gregwill, I will certainly do that as I'm always interested in opinions. It's cool, its like that all forums really lol. My budget is around the 9K mark, possibly slightly higher if the right one came along. I've heard the 2.5L pulls better than the JDM's not sure if this was true or not but the engine problems worry me a little? Not sure if people are adding extra boost on stock parts? Could that be causing the issues? Would it explain why some are letting go and others are fine? I did read the threads greg but it gets confusing when one person said they had problems and some say they have been fine.

I've noticed that some 06 Hawkeye's have forged internals and then the engine is rebuilt...and I wanted to ask does the mileage get reset (because of new internals and new build) or does it carry on with the previous mileage? I usually avoid rebuilds at all costs! But is having a forged engine a good/bad thing...good because of strength...bad because the parts have a lower life span?

hardcoreimpreza Hi there...I did consider a Blob at one time but they have become too common around my area lol. I'm researching as much as possible and thank you for all your kind comments and glad that you are all able to help me as you are all probably more experienced than myself, so thank you for that guys!

Much appreciated!

Im not expert but it seems when some of the 2.5 are pushed past say 350bhp thats when a few seem to start letting go but like I have said some are fine on standard internals with more than 350bhp but it could be a waiting game then!! If it was me I wouldnt want that worry in the back of my mind.

A forged engine can be a really good thing providing it has been done by a well know garage that such as API etc.

Jdm's do seem harder to find and do demand a premium over the uk cars and with a budget of 9k I dont think you are going to find a hawkeye jdm.

A good importer by all accounts seems to be tourque gt I have never used them myself but a lot of people on here have by the looks and pretty much all have had really good experiences them. Give them a ring see what he got and what he got coming in.

Thanks Greg, I can understand mate as there is always a worry that something can go tragically wrong with the engine or gearbox. If I was to go for more power I'd make sure to uprate the necessary parts. I just watched a good video on youtube about Co2 gases leaking into the coolant system on a 2003 Scooby with a possible head gasket problem and he used a little device to suck the gasses from the radiator into this tube like object and it changed the colour of the liquid in both chambers to a yellow colour. Classic sign of gasket failure.

Thanks for the link to that site Greg, it's bookmarked now and I will be sure to contact them to see what they have coming in! I like the idea of a forged engine and parts because it does offer some peace of mind to a certain degree, but I know its not cheap to have done either.

Thanks again!
