Default Rolling my own arches

So im considering having my rear arches rolled on my classic. Currently running 225's with out any issues. However im going to sprint the car and have some rally slicks which are very chunky, they seem to clear but to be 100% i think id like them rolling. Which is a shame as the rear arches are mint on my RA but needs must.

So im considering buying a proper arch roller, not an ebay special! And a set of finishing crimpers. Get the heat gun out and take my time.
I feel that with my patience i will be able to get a decent finish and the clearence that i need for piece of mind.
Wont be going fir a full on upward fold over roll, probable move the lip up 90degrees maybe a touch more.

So what do you think? Is is manageable? Has anyone else tried this?

Joe

As long as you take your time and do it slowly so you dont crack the paint, I think you will be fine Joe. Think I have some pics of when I had my old type r done but that was pretty extreme as they were rolled and pulled

Yeah i renember you had them pulled banny, they were a fair bit wider! I only want the clearance so to be honest i probably wont even fully roll. My main concern is cracking the paint. But like you say take my time i should hopefully get away with it. A company want £150 for it doing which i think is a fair bit.

I just rolled my front arches this weekend. Very easy and just take your time. Remember to keep re heating the area and have some paint just in case you crack the paint. I used touch up paint for some small cracks. Good luck!

Sonic were they 220 x 640 X 17 if so did you just take the lip out or push the arch right out as well ??? just that I have a set of cut slicks sitting in the garage but havent put them on the spare set of rims I have yet.

Mags arch enemy don't cover my area mate I already looked into it. I'd be looking at an hour and a half drive to get to them. They are franchised and the lad who I was speaking to from arch enemy said, he didn't do it full time just on the side at weekends, didn't fill me with confidence to be honest

I own a Version 6 Type R and the previous owner of my Type R had the rear arches rolled.

The result of this was that the paint was cracked and the worst part of rolling your rear arch is that it creates a dent on the quarter panel.

This has distorted both of my quarter panels. It has cost me £1300 for 2 new quarter panels.

When your rear arch is being rolled it causes the metal to pull down on it self creating the dent and distorting the quarter panel.

So by rolling your rear arches you are cracking the paint and will be introducing rust and distorting your quarter panels.

In my opinion if you want to roll your rear arches you should find a traditional Panel Beater and get him to Hammer and Dolly your rear arch and get the arches painted again.

If I get time today I will post some photos up of my quarter panels.

Abs
