Default Big Power build advice

Hi Guys, I currently have a bug wagon running 360bhp. I bought an STI and have put all the toys on the wagon, 6 speed conversion etc etc.

Later this year I am entertaining the idea of going for more power say 500bhp.

Yes I know its a wagon but its something a little different and you don't see many highly modded wagons around.

I am looking for recommendations on which parts to use for the build. E.g would I go for a forged 2.5 or stick with a 2.1 stroker and what make components etc

I would not be building this myself as I do not have the expertise so I am also looking for your recommendations on a reputable engine builder.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I have took my sti to the one called scubaruclient they have very fast Subaru and I sitting in it.. they do this rebuild very good job. they do this in chesterfield very good

I would stick with the 2.1 and turbo wise you have a few options, my choice would be to go rotated as I prefer the power delivery but standard position turbos will do 500. Engine builder wise there is a few of the usual suspects such as paul finch, engine tuner, SC and so on.

I could write you a full list of parts but your tuner may have different ideas to me

Best advice is find a tuner your happy with, get them to spec and build it, getting the spec wrong or mismatching will make it a total dog.

good point! I guess back to the question of which builder then! ive seen so many mixed reviews on different companies

I guess a little of both, The scooby is a second car now so only gets used for shows, Id like to do some track days and runs at Pod.

Opinions vary, i would only ever use scoobyclinic at chesterfield, well worth the travel imo

but be prepared for a gazillion answers

I'm just starting on something very similar, its a 1999 wagon with wide 22b style body kit, 6 speed etc etc. My customer wants high 400's/500. The spec is closed deck 2.5, 14mm studs, avcs heads, supertech valve gear, mated to a S216 from Alan - Enginetuner. Steve Simpson will be fitted the Simtek and mapping it at Group B Motorsport. If my customer is happy to I'll pop a project thread in if anyone is interested?

a specialist local to me saves you loads of money on cosworth gaskets and uses best quality silicone instead most of the cars he has built have ended up in scoobyclinic having the work done properly

find a good tuner with good reviews and speak to them about spec and parts.

If I had to choose, it would be scoobyclinic and mapped by Pat

In addition to the responses on this thread, spend some time searching this forum. I've probably spent 1-2 hours every day (more or less) for the last three months reading up on this topic and I'm far from exhausting all of the content on here.

Hi Craig

If you are already running STI gear,then I would use STI engine for now and add bigger turbo like SC42 or MDX321T and get car mapped,this engine should support this power without the issue if engine has been take care off it

You will love to have in wagon 500bhp,we are run that power and in wagon that power you will definitely feel

And about the what parts used this depends which way you want to go,but I would go with 2.1L,we are run 2.1L and with right turbo you will love 2.1L and spool you will have quite nice,everything depends on turbo used

Reputable engine builder,everyone have own opinion on this and I would personally use Neil@Slowboy racing

Jura,just a little out of subject,how did you find the 2.1 compared with the 2.35,obviously the 2.35 is better and is more costly but do you think there is a very noticeable difference in power delivery?

Hi there

From personal point of view,this depends on mapper and on turbo used..
2.1L is great engine,with right turbo you will love the engine,but just don't forget 2.1L will spool slower bigger turbo than 2.35L,but with right turbo you will love the engine

Power delivery on both has been different,how to say,on 2.1L we are used NOS to get similar spool like we have on 2.35,on 2.1L we are used MDX321T and on 2.35L Scoobyclinic GT30 .63AR,full boost(1.7bar) on 2.1L we are hit at 4500RPM,on 2.35L we are got full boost(2.0bar) somewhere around 3600-3800RPM,power delivery on 2.35L has been just awesome,off throttle or on throttle,response has been almost instant,very similar when we are run NOS on 2.1L
