Default UK WRX vs JDM WRX MY00 models owners

Right, bit of a strange question, but is there much difference in the gear ratios/driving style of a UK MY00 and a JDM MY00 ?

Reason i ask, im after an uprated gearbox to replace my WRX TY752VB and i want a TY754VB1AA (JDM) but not many around, but there are a few TY754VN1AA (UK) ones, i know id need the rear diff as well.

my worry is, the longer gear ratios of the UK box will spoil what is my JDM car, or isnt there much in it ?

Cheers

On my V3 UK Turbo I find the ratios very short as it is, I don't think I'd like them any shorter. There's a recent thread with a load of gearbox info on it, have a search for it.

Cheers, i dont find the JDM box short geared really, just in 2 minds to go uk version, going up hill in 5th gear etc i can do fine at the mo, not wanting to go to uk box and finding i have to downshift more to cope with driving style.

I really like the ratio's of the TY754VN1AA gearbox in mine. So much nicer to drive than it was with the original TY752 box, and it's not screaming it's **** off in 5th at 70 mph.

I'd say my box in 5th at 70mph is at or over 3000rpm which is a little too high for my liking on the motorway, but I'm on boost in a flash though.

That's around where mine sits, it's better than the circa 4K RPM that it was on the standard box.

I hated the short ratios.

I did about 2k miles in Europe in a week last year in an RA. Only about 50 of those were on a motorway, though. The ratios are fantastic on mountain passes.
