As above I'm looking into getting one of these though they seem to be quite hard to come across.
Any ideas as to where I might be able to acquire one?

they aren't being made anymore so any you see will all be second hand at least and probably on the verge of death! There are two types the old green screen jobby and the newerer VFD ones (like Gambits).

They were sold by ECUtek for a while as well but I've never seen one of theirs up for sale. Is it just for viewing data on the go?

You could look at a ScanGauge or something which would also read OBD data to you:

I've been tempted a few times to get one and fit in the clock pod or the cigarette tray.
