just bought the car as a non runner ... its now running,

i have a problem where the car is slowing down and not rolling freely,

even on a hill heading down the hill the car will slow down rapidly and sometimes comes to a stop...

it does this in a straight line and seems to be worse under cornering ...

any ideas ?

 

Sticky pistons in the brake calipers are very common in these cars. Check those and also the handbrake shoes. Jack the car up and try to rotate the wheels by hand a little (out of gear). The sticky one will be obvious.

With regard to the handbrake shoes, the friction material had came off my shoes and were binding the rear wheels up.

No, you shouldn't really. You'll get enough movement to find the culprit. Plus the offending wheel will be roasting hot after a drive.

 

just been out for a drive with minimal braking, the first 3 miles were fine car was rolling freely... then its like someone hit a switch and it felt like the brakes were on between gear changes the car was struggling ...

this was after speeds of 40-50 mph and minimal braking

jump out and had a run round the car and the front drivers side disc was glowing red ...

im guessing i start with that one ..

 

There ya go, that'll be it! I'd give them all a once over if you get time but certainly get stuck in to that drivers side one for now.

 

At the least the inside bottom piston will be seized solid

 

haha we taking bets on it ? can it be freed of or will it need overhauled ?

 

Overhauled is the only way to stop and cure it mate. Scoobyworx do a refurb service. Do a bloody good job as well.

I've refurbed a few sets! All of them have had that piston seized in! Best to strip em down, clean, paint and refit stainless pistons and new seals 😎
