need some advice on a scooby 2000 turbo. Please.
Hi all I'm new to site.
Am after some advice on a scooby that's been sadly stud for 7 years. From what seen so far she needs 2 passenger side windows, discs and pads, bonnet slight dent and couple bumpers and a right good valet. We're going again tomorrow to see if we can get charge in battery to start her. If she don't what's worse that can be wrong engine wise. I really want to take her to give her a new lease of life and have the honour of driving her and making her mine. Thanks.

Has it been dry stored?
Firstly, check the oil and coolant level (maybe even change the oil?) then I'd try to turn the engine over by hand using a socket wrench at the crank pulley. Take the spark plugs out first. If that goes ok, plugs back in, then disconnect the crank sensor (to stop it from actually starting), crank the engine for a few seconds with the starter to prime the engine and turbo with oil. Then you might look at actually starting it.
There'll be all sorts of rubber hoses needing checked/changed not to mention corrosion on brake lines, calipers being seized, discs and pads are probably ruined and so on. Could turn out to be a bit of a mission!

What are the arches like? It's a common issue and can be costy to have them cut out and replaced ,Some Parts are cheap at the moment due to the amount of cars being broken. Might find the calipers rusted if it's been stood, so factor that into the costs, would also factor a full service, cambelts, water pump, fuel pump, brake fluid, Coolant etc. Rubbers under May been replacing, also 4 tyres so I would guess a you need to put £1500-2000 the vehicle.

Thanks piehole. My hubby a mechanic and even tho I'm a lady I don't mind getting hands dirty. I also know a guy who sells scooby parts so not to bad we save on labour. I was heart broke to see such a beautiful car so neglected. I'll take some pics tomorrow and will put em in an album as can't seem to add to thread from phone .

Yeah please do take some photos. My Turbo 2000 was stood in a barn for 2 years before I bought it although the engine had just been fully rebuilt and had travelled 400 miles in the 2 years. Here's a list of what I remember having to repair for MOT:
All calipers seized
All new discs and pads
Brake fluid replaced
Fuel filler neck rusted through and leaking
All turbo vacuum hoses had cracked
Oil changed
Coolant changed
Tyres all scrap
Knock sensor faulty
Spark plugs replaced
Battery replaced
Drivers door lock mechanism replaced
Few bulbs replaced etc
That list had to be done right away for MOT. After that I've done a mountain of work to repair various things along with a lot of upgraded parts that I wanted on. I've also got (had) the rust problem on the rear arches and inside the rear strut towers. I've repaired all that now though.
Definitely a labour of love because the cars simply aren't worth it when it comes down the cash alone.

Just bare in mind that's it's only an old UK turbo so even the cleanest example will only be worth around 2 grand. If this one needs lots of work then it may well not be worthwhile.

Can't be bad at £400, bid them £300 for it and meet somewhere in the middle. As said before, being a UK T2000 it's not worth as much. Maybe because they're all rusty lol
I've upgraded so much stuff on mine now it's gotta be worth £2500 or so but the cost to me would be much more than that. Anyway, the best of luck with it all!

We do t know yet piehole. Find out tomorrow just need to know if engine knackered is it still worth 400 . I'll defo try knock him down tho

My baby was stood for approx 14 months charged battery an she started first time brakes were seized but was poss to move sent her into pole position an am getting her back tomorrow good luck with her an the renovation
Well sadly the car was worse than thought sills totally gone and a hole under passenger seat. Engine turned but didn't start. Guy wouldn't take less than 400 so we walked away. gutted
Best thing to do so in that case, that's only the rust you can see. The **** end will be rusted away too. More hassle than it's worth! The owner must be a little delusional too
Not meaning to sound like a **** and fair enough your looking for a 'cheap' impreza any thing under 1200 ish unless your very lucky and find a diamond in the dirt, is likely to have both rear archs rusting away rear subframe more than likely goin the same way, let alone any gearbox engine issues, the amount needing to spend putting right would be better saved for a cleaner looked after car, you've got to think why has it been took off the road.....
