Hi, Just wondering if anyone has been to Bedford Autodrome & what system did you have?

Tested my noise level & I got:

Static Idle: 84db - 1 mete away
Static Rev to 3/4k 94db 1 mete away
Drive by: Approx 20-30 meters 102b

Blitz Nur Spec, resonated centre section & tubular manifold.

I think you might struggle, I think they are quite strict. Bear in mind this was a few years back, but I took my Sti Classic with full non-res miltek cat back (and equal length headers) and had problems.

I passed the static noise test ok but as soon as I went on track I got flagged to come in. I was allowed to continue but had to short shift all day. Until I had had enough for the day and really went for it for 2 laps before they flagged me again!! To be fair the staff there are quite sympathetic and helpful, it's their neighbours that cause them grief.

 

I do have a bung which I havent tried yet, maybe that may help?

 

Hi Kas, I have a Miltek 3" and it passes no problem, 94dB I think.
Static idle will get you nowhere, they want 3/4 max rpm or 4.5k rpm whichever is greater static and they measure it at 0.5 metre.
Drive by is monitored by 4 fixed stations on the GT circuit and they're easy to spot, so really it would be your own fault if you got a drive by exclusion.
A bung will certainly help.

I'm going on the 6th. Don't let a spot of rain put you off. You won't be able to go as fast as in the dry obviously, but drifting around bends at (indicated) 90+ is a real blast

I play golf at Corby glen which is near the rockingham track , ment to be sound limit on there but can hear it at course easily and that's a good couple mile away

 

Bedford is a great track in the rain isnt it BBY ? we did have some fun when it was wet on track ....especially my slow motion spin

 

Yes but you managed that when the track was nearly dry I think you found the only square foot of dampness in the whole of Bedfordshire mate

 

Subscribing to see how this pans out, I passed the static but failed the drive by on a 350hp 2005 STi on a PPP exhaust with straight through center.

 

On the GT circuit only two of the detectors (microphones?) are situated where I would call full throttle positions. One just after turn one opposite the cafeteria, and the other is on the last straight before the turn in to the pits.
There is another one on a bend and one more just coming in to a braking area so you shouldn't be troubled by either of these two.
It makes sense to just go easy on the throttle when you approach the first two if you are close to the noise limits for drive by.
It is possible to get flagged for noise if you're driving to close to another car as well.

 

Yes very true but in fairness i did have my track wheels on with the semi slick loony tyre`s on but it was good fun and any way you have spun more times than me

I went on Monday with a few guys from BABS. It was raining most of the time but the track was driveable - just.
Although it was fully booked, I'm sure there were quite a few no-shows and loads went home after lunch.
There was absolutely zero grip in the corners, and the bends were only a little better. So apart from blatting down the straights there wasn't much chance of getting the best from the car. I've been on the GT track before in the rain but I don't remember it being quite so grip-less, and nothing I changed on the car helped very much.
I don't want it to sound like we had a wasted day though, we did have a good time but you just had to be patient in the twisties

It could have been worse.
I might have been a marshall stood out on track all day in the rain.

I'd be surprised if you pass the drive by running 2bar (and a GT35R iirc?); the blower will easily breach the dB limit...one of my friends was black flagged in a standard mkI Type25, how did you get on Kas?

 

Mine runs 1.95 bar with a Miltek resonated system and I do take it easy on the throttle when I'm passing the detector stations on the straights. I have been flagged once for noise, but there were 3 scoobys running quite close in a group so they let us continue.

 

Dont have the 35 any more. Running a 205b at 2bar now. It is actually loud compared to the gt35. I am doing mine on the 1st of November

I was flagged on a previous track day, not this Monday BTW.
Honestly Kas they're not worth the time it takes to upload them. There was so little grip there's nothing to see in the corners, and straights are just acceleration and braking.
I tell you, it was so bad and I was going so slowly in the corners it was virtually impossible to miss an apex

Well to be honest I am in 2 minds. Was thinking about cancelling as I don't fancy wasting over £200 just to be told its too loud. I think it will probably **** down, also doing japshow so may park it up and call it off until next summer

 

You can go along to any track day at Bedford and they will do a noise test on your car for free so you know whether or not you'll get a pass on the day.

 

KAS - i've been black flagged there with a de-cat resonated Miltek.

Ended up using my bung and running low boost with up shifts at 5krpm.

Still ended up having fun, but not as much fun as being able to use all the power of the car, Donnington is even worse!

So now i have changed the system totally for the Cobra de-cat track day system and fitted a H&S downpipe. Now its a huge improvement on the sound, still loud but the tone has changed which helps on how far the sound travels when there is active noise monitoring. Car now easily passes static tests and can be used to the full.

Best bit of all the cobra system with the H&S downpipe was only £610 all in!
Build and finish quality is leagues ahead of the Miltek.

Book Snetterton up as the limits are much higher there and you'll have a great day, plus its a much better surface then Bedford. Which has loads of loose stones, so be prepared for some stone chips there!
