Good me too
I will be changing the cam belt on my 03 uk sti this month which to be honest doesn't seem to be too difficult there is plenty of room once the rad is out the way,
Basicly would just like some tips on things that need checking or I should look out for... or do when the belts off or if you have experience doing one maybe any issues you encounter along the way...
and are lighter pullys a good idea ?

No need to remove the radiator, just unbolt the fans off it and lift the out of the way by means of manipulating the top hose slightly. check all of the idlers especially the smallest on near the intake cam passenger side. also check the condition od the tensioner for excess oil oozing out of it

It makes the job far easier by removing the radiator, as it gives you quite a bit more space to work in.

Also, no chance of slipping and skinning your knuckles on the rad , or sticking a ratchet / spanner through it either

 

Along the lines of this I'm changing my timing belt was gonna go for adl blue print one or gates.

Are the keeler type belts like cosworth better and do they need changing less??

Oh ok too be honest regardless the rads coming out so I can flush it through (for no reason other than I can) x

 

I too did wonder about the cosworth belts do they warrant the money you pay for them ? 350 quid for a belt and full kit :S

 

I recently had mine replaced

HKS Racing Kevlar Belt
Genuine idlers & tensioner
Motul antifreeze

 

They are made by the same who makes gates etc...

Exactly the same belt minus the cosworth name

 

Were did you buy it from ? Im doing it myself so need too buy good parts...
As im not far from subaru4u in Newbury I did wonder about getting them too do it but im capable and its cheaper... but they do have a good reputation

If I was feeling inclined to buy an 'uprated' belt I'd buy a Gates Kevlar one. I might be wrong, but looking at the pictures of the two, the Gates Kevlar belt is the same as the Cosworth one? The difference is the Gates Kevlar is £72 and the Cosworth belt is £140.

I was told that the majority of belts now are made by gates...
