Hi my 2010 WRX appears to have a whine in 1st and 2nd gear. It's obvious in 2nd and I can hear it when the window is down but it's not obvious in the higher gears.

car has only done 29k and it's just been serviced at subaru who changed box oil and diff oils as well.

Some people say it's totally normal for this gearbox but just wanted some opinions

 

Anyone at all? Is there an issue or is this common

 

you often get some noise in 1st gear but generally not in others

first question i would be asking is what oil they have used as some are better suited than others........

 

I will call Subaru again tomorrow to see what oil they put into the car as it was less than 1k ago that it was serviced.

2nd gear is definitely noisy, my mechanic took it out and immediatly said every hatch impreza he has driven does the same thing. But the car is under warranty so if it's an issue I want it resolved.

 

Its going back into the garage this week to get looked at. It definitely engages fine with no grinding and the action is really smooth, but there is a definite whine from 2nd gear. put the windown down and I can still here it loud as day.

Sounds a bit like a turbo spooling, but its not the turno or it would do it in 3rd and 4th
