Question

I know there has been some talk here of ULS fuels, but seeing the sign on the SUL pump in my local Shell station reminded me that we still dont really know all the implications of removing sulphur from petrol? Is sulphur merely an impurity which in the past has been difficult to remove completly (as in the steel making process) or did it have a desirable effect? I can remember a couple of years ago that BMW were having problems with the 2.3 engine(?) bores wearing out after only 10,000 mls.! they blamed it on fuels with excess sulphur content? (all you guys suffering piston slap have just sat up?) If this is true then losing the stuff seems good news. Are there any petro-chemical people out there with all the gen on this?
Regards - JohnD
