Yup, that's where I got mine from. Careful though, there's loads of different types for each engine variation. If you're not sure what to go for, I'd suggest buying from a reputable dealer as you're more likely to get the right part.

Interesting... Good quality manufacturing isn't limited to genuine parts though. I'm more than happy with a copy if the standards are good.

In a newage 2.5 car, it is not uncommon for the head gasket to go, be repaired and then the bigends or piston rings fail shortly after. It is well documented on the sticky thread in general.
The fact that the car has over-heated puts stress on other components as well as the oil.

As for a garage wanting over a grand to do a head gasket is absolutely crazy , if ur set on keeping the car grab a second hand engine and chuck it in I do all my own work so no labour for me .
im presuming its the head gasket, its had a new rad, water pump but am getting bubbles in the expansion tank and have to fill the header tank daily, car isnt overheating yet, heater works fine, no air lock, and no visable signs of a leak so has to be the head gaskets.
It's a real false economy going for a second hand engine with a car of this age and value. By the time he's bought an engine done the belts, crank seals, water pump, oil filter, oil, and antifreeze he will be into it for another £700 minimum and that's if he could do the work himself (which he obviously can't) so add £500 to take it out and refit as a minimum and he's looking at somewhere around £1200 as a rock bottom bare minimum, assuming he gets a good engine which I very much doubt.
It's just not worth it for a 14yr old rot box uk 2000 classic thats had all those winters in the uk, bollax to that, bin it and cut your losses.

Of course, you can take your chance with a 2nd hand lump, but rather you than me.

Sorry I think your reply is very miss leading , if the cars been driven around with the water getting in the oil I'd Agee but I'm sure if that was the case the turbo would be the next thing especially if it was a vf .

Plus, you cannot just drop the sump and replace the shells as on most 4 pots due to the lay out.
Trust me, big end failure after head gasket failure on the Impreza is well documented.
Exactly. People don't realise that these £1500 Impreza's can be complete money pits. A decent rebuild from a specialist is £3.5k easy, with all new parts. It doesn't make sense to me rebuilding a flat 4 with used parts, especially crank, shells, rods and pistons as it is such a labour intensive job just to get to them. To it once and do it right.

Otherwise what's the point of buying expensive supposedly better quality stronger after market parts.
But this car is obviously not worth the expense.
