Default Notchy Quickshift

I have a 2007 GB270 WRX which I believe has a quick-shift as standard.

I am used to Subaru gearboxes having previously had a 2001 UK 2000 and understand that most are quite notchy but, the current one is obstructive as well and makes 1st to 2nd and 5th to 4th quite difficult.

I thought I had read somewhere that badly adjusted quick-shifts can cause this problem?

Not being particularly technical, I have no good idea of what a 'quick-shift' actually means. Is it just a shorter gear-lever?

Cheers,
Rich.
