Ok, just trying to gey the juice out of what's been said up to now...

3. We like hard data, and specifics, and figures. The Scooby has a lot of figures to offer... +, it doesn't dissapoint you hands on.

3. OOps, ok, we can't cound... 4. Stupid long hours of work require some R&R when you go home... Sounds good to me

5. Ok, point 2 seems to be arguable, but you should agree that if you have a Scooby, you're either in the OK income group, or you live at mamma's place, have no fixed costs, and no plans for the future (which might well be true, looking at the way you drive )

6. (Another of my cuvée) Looking at the way most IT people drive, they need a car that does most of the driving for them... Scoobys do it all by themselves, which helps IT people to stay alive. Don't they (Ok, we) all have an Eye-Hand discoordination problem ?

7. We are all big kids... how many of you didn't (don't) play computer games until you were 30 ? I dont, but I miss it A LOT ! Scooby can be a big toy, "safe" to put in almost every hand.

So, Any other ideas ?

Max

Working in the media as i do luvvies i recon it's beacuse IT people are
a)Geeky and square with unusal 'taste' in clothes

b)unable to communicate with the opposite sex having spent their formative years in the computer room instead of behind the bike sheds at school

c) ugly or odd looking

d)no verbal communication skills other than the word 'WHATEVER!' or expressions 'It's not the computer it is the person using it that's the problem' or 'theres is nothing wrong with the network' when there invariably is!

Maybe the Scoob helps them feel more 'normal' and helps get the girls.

Thats all

Paul,

You've got it in one....we're all geeks that drive chick magnets

I go along with the theory that most IT people (that I know anyway) like toys and tinkering with them, and what better toy can you get than a Scooby.....

You only have to look at other posts to see how much they've been 'tinkered' with

On the salary issue, it would be nice to be able to easily afford to run one, but it's still nice to struggle and appreciate you have one of the best road cars available.

Paul, you forgot to say they are non-confrontational when bullied face to face... BUT, I'm 1.95m, 85Kg of muscle (Ok not all of it, but mostly), work out 3 times a week, and will take you ANYTIME, ANYWHERE
Being in their Scooby makes them feel they can take on the world Ok, I drive a Legacy Turbo (WRX coming in 25 days), and went to sit in it to get the courage to write these lines , but couldn't let you get away with it...

Cool

Is it because as Geeks we are able to see past the bad looks to the real car beneath? If only women could do the same - Scooby no chick-magnet in my experience! LOL

Sales ! Pah ! You just sell the stuff I have to get it to work !

I agree that I'm totally overpaid for what I do, otherwise, my collection of Lambrettas wouldn't be in double figures.

Leased lines definately rule !

Here's to earning 90K a year !

BMW's attract chicks a lot more than Scoobys.

And from my experience, most ladies don't guive a s**t about what car you're driving... If it's not all banged up and rusty, it's ok with them. They guive a lot more importance to YOUR looks... i'm talking 1st impressions here, not long term relationships.

Proof: Been so happy that people have been asking my why...
I say: New car.
They say (Woman): What is it ?
I say: Subaru Impreza
They say: What is that ?

Any questions ?

I think if you apply this to most IT people it gives the reason:

82% of men think owning the latest gadgets is a 'status symbol' and 73% admit they prominently display their latest acquisitions - 64% think owning gadgets 'definitely' makes them 'more attractive to women' and a further 33% think they 'possibly' do - 88% of men are also convinced a stylish car makes them 'more attractive to women' - Men enjoy showing their friends their new gadgets (78%) and 72% say they 'envy' friends who always seem to have the latest high tech toys - 92% of men admit they spend 'more time playing with their gadgets than with their partner' - no wonder nine out of 10 women moan about the amount of time and money he devotes to his toys - He's also addicted to the remote control - with an average of SEVEN around the home - and 76% of women complain about the amount of time he spends pushing the buttons - 82% of men have 'executive toys' in their office - He spends an average of £6,905 on gadgets ranging from computer to car equipment each year - 62% of men 'collect' something and 58% say their collection gives them greater joy than their partner - Although only 28% of men say they've had 'the ultimate sex of their dreams', only 27% think their life is 'great' and only 55% 'enjoy going to work', a decisive 71% say they HAVE owned 'the gadget of their dreams'

What is it with IT (Information Technology for the uneducated) guys ?

I've been noticing that a lot of us here are somehow job-related to IT.

Can anybody explain the connection between people liking Scoobys, and people working with Information Technology ?

I can think of a few reasons, but would certainly like your input...

1. Since you need to be somehow Computer Educated to be on Scoobynet, this means the average of It people here should be higher than usual

2. IT means good income, which in turn means being able to maintain a Scooby (We all know it's expensive, but very well worth it).

But, do you see a trend like I do, or am I deluding ?

And, do you see any causes for this trend, natural or super-natural ?

Lets see how this evolves...

cheers

Max

P.S. 27 Days to go (I hope !!!).

IT people like toys and specifications, and anything with a turbo charger, 4WD and 230-odd BHP has to be good in the geek top trumps stakes?

I too am in IT and am wondering about the salary thang.

Being an IT Nerd myself, I've had loads of high performance, mainly turbo charges cars, I once had the fastest R5 in U.K. a few years ago, the Scooby is by far the best and fastest thing I've EVER owned apart maybe from the New P4-1.7Ghz I'm testing at present!, now where's my Dr Who pen gone !

Ditto to most of comments already made.

I'm in IT (lower echlons though )

As said, we like toys, big powerful, throbbing toys (oo-er!) and scoobies fit the bill nicely.

IT: too much time on the internet? surely not me

I put it down to the fact that IT people are the most intelligent ( ) individuals, who read up about cars, and buy the best they can afford.

I see you've only made 30 posts - if you knew how many Imprezas have been smashed up in the last 6 months - even the minority of the total reported on this BBS....

IT peeps normally work long hours (well most do) and like toys. Hence the inability to comprehend why their hard earned cash should be spent on a kitchen or such like...... Plus, what better way to unwind than a blast in a nice car.....

My mate owns a B reg Toyota Carina, and he pulls all of the time. Mainly because a/ he is a good looking git and b/ he doesn't actually take his car into nightclubs with him.

PS What does IT stand for?

Read the first line of the thread Olly...

Translation: Information Technology = guys that work with computers = Nerds... (Well, some of us disagree with this last definition)

I agree with most of u about the fact that IT blokes are rich and need to get a fast car to release the pressures from work.

But I am 20, I did have a scoobs (until stolen 2 weeks ago) And yes I have got nice clothes and I have a really good looking girl friend.

A men to all them IT blokes out there! Especially Any ICL employees who may be reading Bigup!

Hey Modrapheniac How much u sellin that P4 for?

Hi Dave...

Of course there are lots of accidents with Scoobys, but then again, how many of those involve IT people ? Don't forget these are supposed to be nerds, therefore not people who take risks ... Most of them will only floor it in a straight line, and almost stop for the next turn, then floor it again.

Most accidents come from non-defensive driving, alcohol and lack of experience.

Eg: I love being sideways, but will NEVER do it coming into a street with cars parked on either side (A kid might jump from between 2 cars anytime), or a place I can't see what's coming the other way. schools, residencial areas, etc are risk zones... No fast driving there...

Well, I guess I'm getting old, but a Scooby is as safe as you can make it... If you crash if, it's defenatly NOT the car's fault, which was what I ment by the comment... You can have fun, go faster than usual, burn some adrenaline, and still be on the safe side of things.

Thumbs up

I'm an IT bod...

I bought my scoob when I was contracting, because:

1. I wanted a fast car, having previously owned a TR7V8.

2. I wanted a car with a characterful engine, having previously owned a TR7V8.

3. I wanted a TVR, but I'm not stupid.

4. I wanted a reliable car, having previously owned a TR7V8.

5. I wanted 4 wheel drive - Having previously slung that bloody TR7V8 off the road.

6. If I didn't get to work I didn't get paid.

7. I used to get paid 3 times more than I do now, when I was a contract programmer.

8. You can't find a decent V8 4WD car, that isn't a f*cking Range/Land-Rover!
