2.0 or 2.5?? help needed.

Back on the hunt to get my hands on my first scoobie!!
Been looking at 04/05 and 05/06.
I'm leaning towards the hawkeye... Personal opintion I think they look mean as f%^k!!! but also want to find one on the cheap tax bracket lol

Been looking at one from JCT Cars Barnsley, anyone had any experience with them??
Also any good points / bad points for either hawkeye or blob eye?? and anything to look out for or stay clear of??
Any help would be great!!

Most on here will warn of the 2.5 engine on the hawks which is prone to failure, check the sticky at the top for real world examples of poor owners going through this. Some even day its a matter of when, not if.
I prefer the front of the hawks and the dials, but have previously owned and also buying again, a 2005 Blob with the more reliable 2.0
Options?
(1) Buy a 2.5 Hawk knowing the engine may fail and cost £3K to replace
(2) Buy a hawk that has already gone bang and been fitted with a stronger, forged engine
(3) As mentioned, buy a JDM hawk which has the 2.0 engine, despite that and other benefits, do know they have equal length headers so dont have the Scooby burble everyone loves. They do sound nice in their own right (to some)
(4) Buy a Blob STI and get over it - the look does grow on you like it did me. Detango the front and add a splitter
...now you know why the Hawks can be found cheap and the 2005 blob hold their price. Plus, tax brackets as mentioned

Wouldn't buy a Hawk unless you fancy footing a £3k for the inevitable engine rebuild.
If you don't fancy that but still really want one then grab one with a forged engine by a reputable specialist or get a JDM version.
A forged 2.5 engine is a fantastic thing on the road.

Agree with 53, I test drove a PPP Hawk and RB320 when I was first looking, they are torquey low down but I much enjoyed the rev...BANG TURBO KICK of the 2.0.
Again, all subjective of course. The 2.5, I imagine, would be an easier day to day cruiser.

I've had my run of bad luck with engines, my old Navarra failed on me, got her fixed (2.5k) by what turned out to be a shady garage and blew two years later with another 2.2K bill... biggest loss I have ever had ahaha.
I love the hawkeye, just abit sacred of it going pop! but like you say anything can break.

My RB320 had the common issue of HG when mods were starting to pile up..
Yes cost me £3000+ to repair but when rebuilt with all the forged goodies reliabilty is great and the torque is what teh 2.0 litre engines can only dream of compared to BHP

£3k ish to put your car right and even better is cheaper than buying a new car that wouldn't be as good.
You get great torque from a 2.5

also a 2.5ltr engine runs out of puff around 6000rpm when flooring it on my turbo's
