It's the first time I've taken a recommendation off a fitter; I usually choose my own brand/type but they had none in. That'll be the last time too..,

TBH I got the Directors involved and they sorted it. Eventually.

You did well to get a refund

Mine are pretty good on the cost / performance scale.

Falken hs449

Excellent wet performance, fairly decent snow - high wear tho. Saying that, they are OK for the third season

If you have the space, worth picking some up in summer.

Just driven through drumochter (a82) and plenty snow. More forecast for next couple of days. Forester ok on summer tyres but in hindsight should have left winters on for few more weeks yet.

As my reply was clearly directed to cuprajake - a hint was in that I included his post in my reply, the likely hood of him needing to put his snow tyres are not high.
I apologize if I have not thought about you and where you live, or which ever part of the country you have found to have snow.
Blinkered, I dont think so, Knowing what I'm talking about, yes, and I do know the weather forecast for where I live, which happens to be not far from where cuprajake lives.

Rich

Seeing as neither you or cuprajake have a location in your avatar thingy I'll put it all down to another failure of my psychic powers.

Not really john, just having driven through bad snow last night, I find it amusing that people laugh at the idea of more snow and the need for winter tyres etc. I changed back early this year and regretted it.

Next years winter tyres thread should be split into a North and South of Britain thread (and no I don't want independence, so save the jokes) and it will be much more meaningful and helpful to all concerned.

Lol at wrong side of igloo

I took mine off because one was split on the inner sidewall and the other car with them on has a partly seized caliper I have been wanting to sort so I have nothing on the road with winter tyres from last weekend but no snow is forecast here in the East Neuk.

I've run winter tyres for 6 years - and have them on separate rims - for 3 cars, so am clearly a fan.

However, this winter, for the majority of the UK, they weren't needed.

However, I've had insurance for quite a few years and not needed that either - noise to know it's there though for the 1 time that I do....

This year was the first in 11 years that we actually put winter tires on a car. Previously we have been fine on all seasons, and this is in a location which is pretty much guarenteed at least one large snowfall every winter.

Having said that, this is the worst winter I have experienced here in 11 years. We had three occasions where we had 10+ cm of snow fall either during the course of the night, or work day. Not great when you have to shovel the driveway before work, in the dark, and extreme cold.

Quebec actually requires winter tires be installed on cars registered there between 15 December and 15 March, not a bad idea as they do get hit with a lot of snow.
