No runner, not in the slightest, so out of touch with proper cardio
The run was 7 miles of up and down hills and 5 miles flat. I check last night on sports tracker before it went off, and I'm at 9.5kmph with a max of 14.5kmph. Ascent and descent 410 meters - app crashed 3/4 round (well my phone died)

When I get chance I'm going to have good read through this thread,I'm looking to get a little fitness in my life and I'm sure there are plenty of tips and advice in the thread to get me going.
I'm looking to buy a fitness watch as this might help a little with motivation.
Anyone using one and can recommend which one to go for?
Cheers
Rich

My exercise is pretty non existent at the moment, apart from work where I'm on my feet for 12hrs and as its shift work I do around 15 days work pcm.
I will start by doing gentle exercise, maybe brisk walking a few miles per day then take up a bit of jogging,we do have an exercise bike so would use that.
I think a watch that could monitor heart rate and take data on how much exercise I'm doing, being able to save the info so I can keep track of my progress would be handy.
I work in a factory on a big printing machine so if I decide to wear it at work then I don't want anything too expensive or big as it could get damaged.
My son has recently bought the latest FitBit. I think it's Blaze model or something like that. He says it's really good. He logs his running, other exercising and it has a built-in GPS. I told him to buy an Apple watch as he has most his gadgets from Apple, but he wasn't too keen on that.
That one looks nice and plenty of functions, maybe a too big for what I need and maybe a little more than I need for basic exercise, maybe further down the line if I get more into it I could look into something more along the lines of the Fitbit blaze.

I like the idea of wearing around the upper arm but the Scosche rhythm + is the only one I've found like this, unfortunately I'm thinking the 7-8hrs battery life is a big negative
My search continues...

I just bought a cheap Nike one, had a pedometer that went in the sole of my trainers and a chest strap, reasons I went for it were cost and size, the watch is a thin band that's maybe 1.5cm wide... like a swatch or something and the face is the same... so not at all intrusive.
You can just plug it into the computer and download all the info.. you can also put it all into a Nike web page and plot your progress... and the page is a bit like a forum with loads of info.
For what it cost it did the job that I wanted and more... which was heart rate, calories burned, I could see when my pulse was in the fat burning zone 120 bpm (although there is some debate about that) but it did help me to make sure I was keeping the pace up.
Was good value and not too complicated.

I swear they feel like high heels since they said I had some kind slightly exaggerated gait or similar
I'm just wondering if its all made up . I didn't need any that stuff when was doing well cross country at school , does gait change to that extent

A good tip for anyone who goes for a gait analysis (I'm aiming all this info more at the guys who are just starting out).....When they bring out the trainers that they recommend, do not ask for the prices, keep it anonymous. So many people I know are swayed by price and not necessarily by the trainers they feel most comfortable in. Also, keep your running trainers as your running trainers and do not use them for anything else or any other activities. Your gait / tread pattern when you walk or do other sports is different to that of when you run.

Deva Middle Distance Triathlon - done.
Totally broken, but had a fun and painful race.
1.9km swim in 41 mins
88km bike in 2h47 mins (average speed just under 20mph)
21km run in 2h10 mins (not so good after I took a tumble 2km in and dislocated two fingers. Had to pop them back in and carry on)

Extra weight loss
Having done a training week in Tenerife and Welsh 121 mountainous ride with 12k of climbing, yesterdays club run of 70 miles really brought it home. It was pretty quick with an average 18.5 mph, I struggled with the bumps and odd hill to stay with the pack. I'm currently 15st 9lb I need to get down into the 14st bracket whilst maintaining power. I've got Mont Ventoux this Autumn and have this as my target to lose weight.
