16-18 is comfortable for the 40+ mile rides, 22 is awesome! FWIW - Froome allegedly sustains 450 watts on a hill climb for over 45 minutes, and Cavendish peaks at 1800 watts in a sprint.
Sprint tri this weekend, looking forwards to an 04:30 wake up call
DPB - Good luck with your tri at the end of the month

I'm okay with the swim, just takes 10 minutes or so to fully settle into watery world ( so noisy) bit like the first mile of the run .
Bike. Well you're sat down, all you have do is pedal fairly gentle

I messed up and forgot my watch so I had no idea on my splits, and consequently no idea on how much extra I could push
I reckon I can get about a minute off the swim and about 5 off the bike, probably save 30 seconds or so between the two transitions too.

Only done a few triathlon so far. The bike section this time will be one lap or is it two , anyway there's no slowing down to go round a cone and back on yourself, which I'm looking fwd to
Just a steady 18mph if I can

To me it's an expensive hobby, even the entry fee seems a lot

Two old friends of mine, both recent cancer survivors, have put in loads of training in the last nine months. One has just done the Baku Iron Man in under 14 hours, amazing considering he could hardly swim a stroke a year ago. The other completed a John O'G to Lands End bike ride, ten days, finishing last Saturday. Awesome work!

Aargh, sorry, error! I was just reading about the Baku event and wrote it but my friend has actually just completed the Welsh Ironman in Pembrokeshire, a bit different in quality of competition but just as testing. Both he and the bike rider had previously suffered from oesophagus cancer, with big bits of gullet removed. The ironman chap had his done 5 years ago, the bike rider just 18 months ago. Apparently it makes it very difficult to get enough food down themselves for these long endurance events, so all the more remarkable.

chin ups are body weight
bent over rows the heaviest set is 100-120kg
pull downs I tend to stick around 90-100kg
T bar rows heaviest set is 80kg
my workouts are based around working the muscle to its absolute max, rather than using the heaviest weight possible where you tend to recruit other muscles

But i was more asking about your weight, i'm resuding at 218 but holding water and yet more to shift, fingers crossed i'll have most of it off by the end of the year.

Hah no worries, i should have been clearer.
I'm hopeless at guessing, i was going to suggest 210lb but i didn't want to get it wrong
I'm bigger, and yet my legs are weaker than they've ever been which is odd.
I feel it's my body bringing everything into proportion, as my thighs have always been on the large side.

As if, didn't expect that. I thought every lifter did them. I do them when I can as I have lower back pain which varies day to day. I've had to drop weight a lot though as I had a long break from them to see if that's what was causing the pain. Obviously not as it never went away!! I used to lift 150kg and now after a few months back on them I'm back to about 90 comfortably from 60. Either way it's clearly working for you mate
