As daft as it sounds Dunk you may need to eat more to lose weight. Your body may be going in to survival mode due to the lack of food. Are you eating at regular intervals to keep your metabolism fired up?

Yup, I'm eating about four bits of fruit through the day, a chicken salad or prawn cocktail for lunch and a protein milkshake thingy later on, with some nuts or yogurt with strawberries or blackberries as a snack later.

Do some form of endurance everyday, not necessarily running. Cycling, walking briskly, swimming etc.

Don't overdo the cardio - I killed my immune system for a year thanks to over-training. Not useful for fitness.

The lack of carbs may be tipping your body in to survival mode. I'd consider adding a little more carbs. Try adding some HIIT to your routine and see if it helps. It's always a case of trial and error as everyone responds differently. Sometimes it's not about training harder but training smarter.

I think it only shows respect to the difficult of the subject rather than an acknowledgement of my stupidity to say this is far more complex than anyone still yet understands.

This is only highlighted by personal anecdotes. For now, I'm lucky in the sense that I don't seem to be receiving the punishment for my bad deeds in that I am basically eating how I like and not really watching the carbs at all, but have stabilised 12kg lower than where I started. I think my eating habits have changed and am now treating carb or sugar rich food as a treat, but I appear to be below a critical level of carbs and sugars that my body can handle without turning me back into a fat *******.

Restricting drastically or eliminating carbs is a huge folly. This causes the body to go in to shock and what is called 'survival mode'. It tries to hang on to what fat it can and cannibalises muscle and protein for energy. The metabolism rate drops too which is hugely detrimental and you feel like crap and crave carbs.
It is far better to adjust your diet slowly and keep yourself fuelled for intense exercise. Let the body get used to the change and furthermore allow yourself to mentally get in to gear.

I do it in 29 in the sea Mind you, no turning around in the ocean.

Maz - you'd have to cut carbs completely.

I've stayed slim through eating vaguely sensibly but no real restrictions or supplements. I don't think it's hard.

I reckon a bit of lighter weights, more ab work and maybe some bodyweight stuff to up the fat burn.

That last bit of gut often seems very stubborn.

That's an odd length! I'd LOVE to have access to a 50m pool. Don't think there's a single one in Cornwall though.

Someone that used to post on here who is a year older than me lost a similar amount but took him four times as long, he does more exercise and was aiming for ketosis 5 days a week. I think the difference in these cases is genetic. My idea of low GI still included four slices of bread a day, but seedy stuff that is nice but half the carbs of the supposedly healthy stuff I had before.

Also difficult when comparing to know what people really do as many go and have blowouts on beer and don't remotely stick to what they claim.

You inspired me to do my first pool swim in ages; 1km, 19 minutes as usual!

I've tweaked my shoulder so thought weights would be a bad idea.

It's beer and snacking which kill diet plans in my experience.

When I've lost a weight in the past I do something like 1500 kcal a day for a month and might lose 2-3 kilos. That's normally enough to get a 6 pack back for me.

It makes you bloody hungry that is for sure!

Genetics is a huge factor. However I still think eliminating carbs is a mistake both in the short term and certainly in the long term.
Shock loading the body one way or another generally causes the body to react adversely. Easing in to things is the best approach.
This fellow attained the conditioning he has by controlling carbs not eliminating them.

I've got work to do

I don't cut anything out, I like carbs, I like sugar, if I completely denied myself I would be likely to end up binging on it, so I eat more of less what I want but I just make sure it's around 1000cals for the day, and then do 20mins cardio, resistance machines and weights 3-4times a week.
Down 19lbs since last week of October, so it's working for me, however, I wouldn't suggest it for any length of time because it's likely to be deficient in vitamins and minerals with being so restrictive, but for me this is probably the healthiest way I've ever done it.

Nice one chief.

Ran a charity 10k at Oulton Park the other weekend - that's a damn hilly circuit when you're not in a car (Garmin track here). Also not helped by a nasty headwind in places and with only ~80 runners, there wasn't anyone to hide behind.

Yep - 47m for a hilly 10k is good going.

SJ - what pace did you have to set to get 8th (I thought you said you weren't a quick runner?!)?
