The jury couldn't prove he knew she was in the bathroom although its blatantly obvious she was, well to me he definitely knew, probably chased her in there, but couldn't kick the door in due to his blades so now its just a possible manslaughter charge, absolutely ridiculous.

most of the pertinent fact were not in dispute

I think it is simply difficult to prove "intent"

I would have thought it will be culpable homocide

What a load of bollox. The judge has taken a back hander, the whole thing is fishy as ****.

What about the neighbour next door who heard her (a woman) screaming, it was flatly dismissed. Why?

He got a bit pissed, lost his temper and shot that beautiful girl 4 times.

Murder, murder, murder.

He should be swinging from a rope.

Apparently Pistorius screams like woman and it couldn't be proven otherwise that it wasn't him screaming afaik. What is bollox is the judge reading out the verdict and changing words as she saw fit, made her look very amateurish.

So having stumps has been enough to get him off 'intention to kill'.

I can't see how unloading your magazine through a locked bathroom door can be self defence

Sends out message that it's okay to kill a possible intruder, sight unseen or seen

Very different to here or even the states

But this is why even quite small houses have retractable security gates and bars on the windows , one massive industry - built on perception

South Africa isn't the UK, so it's hard to judge by our standards. There are 150 times more murders over there than here in any one year. Crime is rife, and everybody is in fear of it. Going back forty years ago a friend of mine moved over there to work, and the first thing he did was have gun training for the sidearms they all carried in his line of business. (Telecommunications).
Random street shootings, hijacks and robberies are a way of life. People keep guns at home in case they are attacked during the night. The only other solutions involve panic rooms. The alternative is being hacked to death while they rape your wife and daughter.
I don't know if he meant to do it or not, all I know is I wouldn't live in South Africa thanks all the same, just so I wouldn't have to face any of it.

Shrien Dewani must fancy his chances after the outcome of this trial.

Both sets of lawyers on the Pistorius trial will be laughing all the way to the bank that is for sure. "Bulldog" Nel proved to be pretty toothless at the end of the day.

She said the state had failed to prove he intended to kill Reeva Steenkamp.
She being the judge. The prosecution failed to prove beyond doubt he murdered her. If the judge had gone with murder then the appeals would be next. I'd be surprised if the prosecution appealed the culpable homicide verdict. Better to get him on something than risk prolonging proceedings and risk an even lighter sentence.

They probably do believe that they had a fight, he lost his temper and fired the gun to scare her and ended up killing her. But its proving it beyond doubt and expensive lawyers are slippery *******.

It isn't just celebrities though.

My mother used to have a house in Cardiff. There was the odd ruction next door but one particular time the noise got particularly bad and the screaming went to a higher pitch than usual.

My mother opened the front door to find a man on her porch bleeding to death. The nurse who lived next door tried to stop the bleeding but he bled out on my mothers doorstep.

Now there was only the dead guy, the guy with the knife and the girlfriend in the kitchen.

What followed was a series of court visits of which my mother had to attend all of them ending in the police calling my mum one day to say the case has collapsed, they let him go and don't panic if the guy turns up next door again.

I think his story is utter BS, a legal fiction, but the prosecution just couldn't find evidence for premeditation. It just comes down to what he says basically.

As I said in an earlier post, the facts are not in question

The state had to prove "intent", they seemed unable to (not surprising because it is hard to do)

So first degree murder was always (despite what you seemed to have read in the media) going to be difficult

The debate is going to centre around the middle charge, the one lower than first degree, but higher than manslaughter

For anyone wondering what "culpable homicide" means, it's when you're famous and can buy your way out of a murder charge
