I am absolutely devastated too Craig, bloody love my car, so cries like a wee baby when it happened

Thanks for the link, I did see this but thought it sounded too good to be true, as everyone else has quotes me £900-£1000+ and this one is £500??

be weary of second hand engines, they are just that, a proper rebuild may cost more but can work out alot cheaper in the long run.

Not when a proper rebuild is worth more than the car itself.

A rebuild is cheaper than keep replacing second hand engines with second hand engines. False economy in my book.

Still false economy.

Do it right: £3000 fitted.

Second hand could be, £500 for the engine, lots of headaches fitting, £300 fitting so £800, it lasts 6 weeks or less.......

Do that four times, you are over budget, plus figure in fetching the new engines, off-road time, recovery of failed car every time....
False economy.

Bleeding the cooling system can often cause coolant to bubble out of the header tank, which can get on to the exhaust. They tend to blow "smoke" (water and anti freeze vapour) out of the bonnet scoop and everybody thinks your car is on fire! We prefer to prevent this as much as possible, or at least make sure most of it has stopped before the customer picks it up.

Evening all,

Would a my98 classic engine block be the same as my block? Hoping I can use my brothers written off car engine with a bit if luck!

Cheers,

Carl

The short motor will fit, but, as Craig say's you'd want to use your heads etc.

I get what your saying mate, but I just don't think its always the best option on lets say a bug wrx. when there not worth much to start with.

And I very much doubt that after a second engine failure you would carry on with number three and four!

if yoru rebuilding to sell it then no not worth it, but if your rebuilding it to keep then your only doing yourself the favour of making it reliable.

Ok, so have hopefully now sourced an engine.

What are people's suggestions for who I use to put the engine in for me..? Or anyone or here wanted some cash on hand for doing it for me?

Cheers,

Carl

Agreed. But to make it worth while you would have to keep it for a good number of years.
So many people on here spend thousands on a rebuild and then sell it within a year, which is madness imho.

Hi Craig,

Yeah I have put deposit down on that engine you recommended, and the guy said he was removing it from current car today and I am picking it up next Sunday.

Then the garage are fitting it Tuesday/Wednesday, then she should be purring like a kitten again

Nah I didn't unfortunately. The garage looked at it for me and seemed to deduce the garage who did the cambelt change were not at fault, as had the cambelt covers off and all looked in good shape still.

Just unlucky I think.

Engine picked up yesterday and is now sitting at the garage ready to be fitted!
