Always felt everyone should do 2 years on a bike to learn roadcraft, IF they survive, then they can progress to learning to drive a car

I will definatly second that, i always thought even 1 year would do, winter and all. Then they would at least think twice pulling out on someone when some poor sod is plodding along in the freezing rain trying to survive the ride home.

+916 ..... I'd be surprised if the vast majority would survive more than 20 mins without needing a change of underwear. I've taken a few of my "cars only" pals on the back of my Ducati for a "Bike Baptism" and very, very quickly you can sense them starting to feel uneasy with the way we're treated as bikers - certainly changed their perspectives

CBT, theory & hazard perception tests, then modules 1 & 2.

You may already have provisional bike entitlement on your licence, so you can ride a 125 with 'L' plates as soon as you have CBT. If not, you'll need to request that too before you can ride any bike on the road.

All I ever wanted was a bike, remember when I was approaching 17 I had 'the chat' with my Mum. Went with her to walk the dogs (not like me then) and gently let her know I'd not be wanting to do my car test, just get straight on a 125 and have bikes for the rest of my life. She made me do my car test, which I passed easily as I didn't have any pressure. My first bike was a TZR 125 that my Dad made me promise not to connect the YPVS system up (sorry Dad) But, after a year of riding in all weathers (inc snow) my girlfriend was keen I got a car. So, that was bikes history for me.. Until 2001, came back off holiday and me and a mate both did the full test. The cost was about £500 as I had to do cbt again and even a written test. First bike back was a zxr400 which was great fun, then went and bought an R6 brand new. After that it was a load of 1000cc bikes, starting with R1's, my favourite being the ZX10r when they first came out, that was the best bike I've had, sooo fast yet easy to ride.

Been through the whole Dad thing myself now and selling up. But now I'm back on the look out. Really want a track bike and to get into that. My whole riding life I've been a bit held back by a bad back, had an op a year ago and never been better. Amazingly I even fancy a Harley sportster too (which I never thought would happen)
