Yep, exactly - 500bhp, from a 2ltr engine using second hand parts

Mmmmm, it is ALWAYS some one else's fault

Chris j t I have enjoyed reading your reply's and agree with the comments as I think some tuners want you to only sing out praises when things are going good and if you are not happy with there service just to sit down and be quiet.I myself give commendation to excellence but will dish dirt out on any shister that I have personally dealt with that there service has not been up to par,so that anyone reading can see the other side of the coin and make a decision about a company for themselves.SJ.

500hp on an impreza imho is not that difficult these days..............

Mines been running 453 on a standard bottom end for nearly 7yrs and I'm not shy with it by no means, but I don't take the pìss either. At 1 point it was running 2 bar of boost.

Point being if everything was done as it should be, I can't see any reason for it to fail at those levels unless driven outside of tolerances, has been neglected, not checked oil, not serviced etc. Hey I'm not saying shìt don't happen as it clearly does, but multiple failures? Something's adrift somewhere quite clearly imho.

Thats fair enough its totally wrong when you rely on people that are suppose to be the ones to give you the right info and when it dont do what they say come out with excuses.
I feel bad fir you and wish you luck sorting it as its not right you paying for sonething thats not being done right. My dad had the same with his car suppose to be running 500 easy and struggled a little getting 415. He went mad at the guy because at first came back with only 360 ish.he would not accept that .

There is a world of difference between an engine that'll do 450 hp and an engine that will do a genuine 500 hp.

There is no way on earth to build an engine that will be 500 hp resistant and stay together for any length of time cheaply. A few on here have done it their own way and fallen foul of thinking that is just a case of buying expensive parts and putting it together. In fact an engine BUILD is just that and anything that we build for serious power probably gets "built" about 4 or 5 times before it is dimensionally correct and will work.

Expect a build of such an engine that will be a genuine lasting 500 hp either 2.0 or 2.1 to cost £10,000. A 2.33 will be rather more reflecting the cost of the crankcases that you need to start with.

Do not even think about a 2.5 for anything above 460 if you want it to last.

The company in question had supplied all of the parts, it would be a different story.
You don't hear this sort of thing with API do you? And for good reason.

Thanks for your utter faith in APi

To be truthful - we all have our moments - when things don't go according to plan. Then it is the reputation of the company involved that sorts it out quickly, politely, maybe not to everybody's satisfaction - BUT sometimes a person will do damage that is beyond the control of the engine builder then we discuss and try not to argue. Shouting is usually the defence of the culprit and it never helps.

Providing you handle your customer correctly and behave properly there is usually no need for anyone to start yelling on Forums. Some folks do that long before they talk to their supplier. That is quite often because they view themselves to be on thin ice and want the weight of a forum to coerce the dealer into giving way when he perhaps shouldn't.

What will never happen with the likes of us, Clinic, RCM, EngineTuner, AS Performance etc., is that we will never charge for bits not supplied. Apart from simple stealing. We always work on the basis that if an engine develops a fault and it gets stripped elsewhere. you do not need the evidence there for all to see, that it doesn't contain the parts that the customer has paid for.

Lets be he honest mistakes will always be made as thats human nature but a company earns its rep with how it deals with its mistakes.

Seems like a lack communication between both parties somewhere along the lines but once the trust is lost there is no going back, regardless of what is put forward to rectify the issues...

I had to read the original thread again just to be clear. Why the hell didn't you just give the car to a specialist and say 'there you go, make me a 550bhp monster.'

What you have tried to do is build an engine with nearly 3 times the stock power with second hand parts. Fact.

Let me say that again - a 500bhp car with second hand parts.

Also, a 500bhp+ 2.35l turbo will never be 100% reliable. Jesus, stock power cars are not always reliable. You make it sound as if building a 500+bhp Scooby is a piece of cake and a 'walk in, walk out service'. It isn't.

A 540bhp Ferrari 458 costs £170k with a 1 year warranty. 1 year!

Honestly bud, I know you feel like you have been stung, but you have tried to build a 500bhp monster on a budget.

When I started off I was looking on here there was a guy selling a api engine that was running over 540bhp with less than 4k on the clock so I got the block for about 4k .
Then someone else off here had some heads ported polished over £1200 had them rebuilt ... had it all put together then got a md321 that had been rebuilt abuot £1000 / 1200 .... then the turbo let go so got a Gt35 new .... then the started running on 3 sent it to be looked at was told it was the block so payed for new bits to go in the block got the car back ..run it in as told to with oil changes ex after it was run in mapped 2 days it was back to running how it was so I thought at first maybe one of the new parts had let got car went back was told it was the heads so got new heads again rebuilt got the car back ... smoking oil change then lost a bit of water had a sniff test and gess what ... I see ppl selling engins on here all the time and never hear shdnt by that its 2nd hand .. the way I look at it if its done right it shd last. .. its not like im racing round a track for a se

Jesus dude that sounds like a right saga. I know it's easy to say in hindsight but why didn't you get a company or builder that has a proven track record of turning out 500bhp cars on a regular basis?

Sounds to me like you spent a heap of cash for and ended up with a shed.

Feel for you, you could have bought a nice spec c for the money you've spent.

I really don't know why people are only focusing on "you bought secondhand parts, blah blah blah" when readying what he says that isn't necessarily the case..

He bought a 4k old API built engine....Not many would turn down one of those for the right price. Rebuilt heads and a rebuilt turbo then basically replaced all the above when he was advised to....Hardly secondhand from there on in.

I agree 100%,this second hand parts malarkey has nothing To do with a engine letting go if it is built properly, has anyone brought a second hand car?that would be a poor excuse from the seller if it blew up now wouldn't it (oh dear!you knew it was second hand now didn't you bruv when you brought it)a really bad excuse and cop out for bad workmanship if you ask me.If someone was to build there own engine and it exploded that is a risk that they are personally taking themselves,Thats why we go to specialist in the first place now isn't it?,for professional workmanship and advice that's what you as customer are paying for,not excuses if it goes wrong you want it put right end of.SJ.

When that fozzy went bang there was no lights on before hand .... ohhh and gess what he built the block in that as well ... and cost me just over £300 because of the log book ..... he even ****ed up hes own gearbox because he fitted it wrong on hes race car ... at no point was I told by him to do up the wheels to witch he had a key .. he got then off ok . Or the map it
I was told to take it easy on the way home .. have a oil change because it had been sitting .. oh and that he had done a oil change. . That turns out it wasn't .. the oil was black . And had the same oil filter I had fitted ..
