New UK Subaru Sti - Due April/May

Would Subaru be stupid enough to be launching a brand new model with a dodgy engine? Especially knowing that the world is watching due to having problems with an earlier model? Maybe I'm looking at it through rose-tinted soon-to-be-new owner glasses, but I'm going to hope not.
Exactly what they have done here, new shape same engine...
I do hope they have done something, just keep your eyes on USA boards because there the first to go pop due to crap fuel.....
harder to spot in the UK, as they dont sell many. only 175 saloons sold in 3 years
Im sure youll enjoy it like i did, but that issue is always in ya head, because you've read the forums LOL

175 in 3 years?!?
Well, there was about 200 new ones for the UK sales this year, and I think they are all but sold now. If they continue to sell a few more, then the amount kicking about in the UK will be sufficient enough to give Subaru a headache if we end up with more engine problems again.
I'm refusing to be battered down on this. I AM looking forward to my sti despite all the harbringers of doom.

In all seriousness though get the car if you like it and enjoy it properly while it's under warranty. If you have no issues after 3 years of proper driving you will probably be OK.

Appreciate your concern, but nothing is stopping me having this car on my drive come May.
I'll take my chances and hopefully have a decent few years with it. I'm not interested in buying an older Subaru model that may well be better built. Buying an older car can come with as many problems as buying a new one that MIGHT have some ongoing issues. So what choice do buyers have? If I listened to some owners on here I should keep my hard earned in my pocket, or buy another brand? This IS a subaru club isn't it?
It's a bit dis-heartening to find so many negative comments on the brand new flagship model upon joining a Subaru forum.
Haters will hate, but I intend on enjoying my Sti. And IF I have some problems with it, then I'll deal with it (or rather the warranty will) and I'll move on. Life's too short, eh?

Very nice mate, will be looking forward to seeing the pictures
And they only hate because as much they will deny it, they can't afford the 30k for the new version and are still happy with the classics and new ages etc
So best bit of advice ignore them, they snub anyone that ain't got what they have
Classics use the 'I prefer it raw and low' bug eye owners say 'they just love the bug eye, the blob eye owners say 'I wouldn't dare have a 2.5 lump, the hatch owners and saloon owners pretty much just fight the others saying they hate them
I'm a blob eye owner and I love the new version looking forward to seeing it

Listen to people who have the new saloons not the people with the old hawks and early hatches

I have a late 2010 saloon and it's going strong doesn't use any oil. It's a cracking engine with lots of torque. I've only added a extra 20bhp with a pro r ecu.
I wouldn't push the engine much more than 340-360 bhp without big mods to the engine.
Make sure you only super unleaded and you will enjoy a very rare car that not many people have.

Must admit Urban, it did take some time for the 2010s onwards to raise there heads dont you think.
As somebody on here said, IM group paid them to be quiet :/ so that says it all really.
I agree somewhat on the Modding aspect, i myself never touched it, only had the Subaru certified remap done, and it was perfect for 30k miles.
Some did wangle it, some didnt. i noticed a lot of the Yanks seem to get the COBB access port straight away to cater for bad fuel, but they still blow up...
i think that if you drive it like youve stoeln it, it will go bang. If your like me and a straight line hero from the lights then youll be ok
One but of advice Hulk, set the Rev Limiter Beep lower than it is, as youll find by the time its beeps your in the limiter and thats not good for a scooby, Lower it as you get older LOL reaction time get slower

So let me confirm.
Subaru release a car 4 years ago, that had an ongoing fault that caused the engine to go at massive cost. They then continue to release cars with this fault, and at the same time buy customer's silence while dealing with the ongoing engines going pop. THEN they are set to release a brand new car (now 4 years later) whereby they will STILL be repairing goosed engines (while trying to blame driver error) or continue to pay customer's MORE hush money? Why would any sane company do that?
Sounds a little far-fetched to me. Don't want to ruffle anyone's feathers.
I'm really hoping if we look after our new Sti and don't do anything daft with after-market tuning then ours will be fine and serve us well.

I have to admit I am interested in this but difficult to commit so soon with so little info.
After selling my 06sti 3 years ago I also have been running a focus RS and am looking for an able replacement and the latest sti ticks most of the boxes.
I had absolutely no issues with my last sti and would have replaced the last if the 4 door had been available then.
working overseas at the moment so I may have missed the boat, what's the procedure for reserving one? Is a deposit required? I would also want a trade in price for the RS so this will delay things.
Only 200 this year or for the first batch? Maybe I,ll wait 12 months and see what happens.
also considering audi S3, S4 but not sure of the fun factor with these.
Any opinions or advice welcome!
Graham

My untuned and unabused Hawk blew its engine about a month after its third birthday at a cost of several thousand pounds to sort out. Pistons and head gaskets were screwed.
In stock form the 2.5 engine is utter shïte, read the thread at the top of the page and go and read the North American forums.
I will not be buying one of their new cars and am lost for words on the decision to release this car with what appears to be an unmodified version of an old engine that is well documented as being prone to failures.

Have you read the 2.5 engine thread at the top?
Also have a read at the hatch owners in members section.

Hi again guys.
I'm sort of stuck now between a rock and a hard place. I've placed a rather large deposit down on the car, and I don't think I'll be able to cancel and get my money back.
I really want the new Sti. I'm sort of in the mindframe that if all these new models start going wrong - Subaru really wouldn't have a leg to stand on. My biggest concern would be Subaru trying to blame a possible failure on driver error. I'm not going to mod mine at all, and I won't be bouncing her off the red-line either. I'm also worried that the supplying dealer who is doing me the deal on the Subaru is hundreds of miles from me. Therefore in the event of something going wrong, I would be taking it to Derek Slacks in Teeside - who didn't sell me the car, and would probably not give me the level of customer care that the supplying dealer would.
But, like I said - I've paid my deposit now and signed the order form. I'm really gutted by all this. It's really taking the shine and excitement off what should be a fantastic thing to look forward to.

However why not voice your concerns raised in this thread to your dealer in a letter and ask for a written reply. The reply will no doubt state you have no need to worry as the engine will be fine and you have a warranty.
Then buy your car and enjoy it, if it blows up you at least have a letter from your dealer stating there would be no issues and in a court of law (if it came to that) I doubt they could then wriggle out of replacing the engine under warranty.
At the end of three years you can decide whether to get shot or keep it and forge it before it blows up (as it is much cheaper to do it before the engine goes).
With a forged engine the car will be bullet proof

I don't think this is a case of anyone being jealous, it's Subarus fault for continually producing a duff engine......saying it's all good unless you mid it is untrue they can blow/break in standard form they haven't done anything to rectify this problem!
There's countless post about 2.5's going bang and you can see this is true in the value of Hawks there not exactly expensive now you can pick them up for less then Blobs!
Unless it's forged or JDM!
Op I wouldn't worry as you will have warranty but I would be asking them if there going to honour fixing the 2.5 when it goes bang, they know about all these engine problems it's not like it's a secret lol
Maybe set aside some money and at the end of the 3 years give it a treat to a forged lump!
2.5 forged is an animal!

Yep the forged 2.5 is generally a great road engine, I wouldn't recommend ragging the absolute **** off one but then again I share that feeling with all engines designed for use on the public roads.
I still can't believe that comment above about these engines being fine unless tuned, they break readily even at 276bhp and 296bhp stock outputs let alone 316/325/335 bhp figures that are rolled out as PPP/330s/340r packages.
The sad reality is that the 2.5 would be a decent engine if it were built with stronger studs and stronger pistons and people would say "well these things only really break if you push them well beyond what they were designed to push out".

God I hope when the actual full details are released next month there is something about them solving this problem.
