Subjective.

The thing with all modified cars is that it's personal. You will very rarely if ever see a modified car at the proper bespoke auctions or for sale selling at high prices.

The real money is with original or restored classic cars. You don't see slammed, white line snorting, pimped, stretched tyre Cosworth/Escorts/UrQuattro's/Porsches/Ferrari/Merc/VW's etc etc. People who appreciate cars like original.

The more people *******ise/chop/chav up/neglect their cars the more attractive an original and unmolested car becomes.

Mythbusters did polish a turd, but underneath it was still a turd.

if you want top money, it has to be very low miles and as subaru intended, anything else will detract from its value, thats how collectors with the money look at it anyway...

That may well be the point, it's possible to tell how many P1's are left. P1 chassis' don't tend to be made into track cars, whereas Type R's are.
What I do know is I've seen more P1's on the road than Type R's.

Wrong!

The game is up with the P1, anybody who truly knows Subaru's knows a Type R is the one to have over a P1, And the V3 will be the one that commands the most of the bunch, closely followed by the V4 and V6.

Same goes for the early RA's.

Track/rally prepared mk 1 and mk2 escorts fetch a small fortune....the rally pedigree and preperation doesn't seem to affect there value ...

Depends on how its been modified .....

What about the 555 RA V-Limited Editions? Are they up to much? The lad I bought my WRX Wagon from owns one and said that he's tucked his up as a longer term investment.

All this one model commands a premium over another is all very well but has nothing to do with a model attaining 'classic' status.

Sorry, but the only Impreza that will be a genuine classic is the 22B. End of!

I have to disagree chris, plenty of bog basic standard cars get to classic status, mini is a perfect example, even an 850cc automatic will command good money and have the rarity value, it will be the same with all subarus of this era in 20yrs when there's bugger all of them left out there, you'll be at the post office in OZ collecting your pension and some old boy will pull up in his turbo 2000 and you'll reminisce about yours and offer to swap your AMG for it.

Volvo 360 is another example. Who'd have thought the council estate dweller would become desirable. It's the same with anything with age and rarity. When was the last time you saw a tidy MK1 Ford Mondeo for example. It'll end up a classic at some point even if you hate them with a passion.

I totally get the 22B thing. I've come from a Vauxhall background where the Astra GTE 16v and The MK3 Cav GSi (even though it was a 4x4 turbo shell in BTCC) have legendary status due to winning in motorsport. It bought the values of the lower models up too but obviously those two in particular stood out from the more basic ones.

I can't help but think an original UK turbo 2000 will do well as technically it garnered the audience that then related to WRC and gave legend to one particular 22B. Any Classic shape is going to garner classic status by virtue of age at some point, it's just that particular 2 door is that bit more special.

I wouldn't write off the 4 door WRX's. At the rate they are being broken and the shells being unwanted and scrapped there will come a point when there's less supply than demand.

The V3 had the older clocks didn't it ditch? Was the whole dash reshaped for the v4?

any Scooby given enough time and quantity remaining etc will make a decent classic.
the same with any other marque.
when i bough my 1st car, vivas, mk1 escorts, chevettes, minis etc were selling for £50....now look at the prices.
i had a couple of mk1 Astra GTEs and remember having this same discussion when i sold them and it was deemed that they would be worth pennies and would never be classics.....now try and find a decent one for under £5k....... enough said.

I have my RB320, No 004, 18,000 miles, tucked away.

Only 251 left :-)

Money still going down for them at the minute, but I have plenty of time to allow it to turn around & start going up again.

Yep totally agree, things like the Vauxhall Magnum 2.3 or the Fiat 132 super miafury (spelling and number could be wrong) Triumph dolomites and Stags, what a bag of **** the Stags were but find a nice one now for less than 15k, even one of my first cars a mk4 Cortina would fetch £5k+ now and it was a piece of ****, but great fun at the time and a babe magnet too.

Yeah but IMO true classics are cars that command prices way above their original price and way above other similar cars of the time. Sure cars like Mk1 Astra GTEs may be fetching £5K, but it's hardly serious investment fodder is it?

Look at cars like the Aston Martin DB5 - cost the same as an E Type (which is a classic itself anyway with Series 1s going for £80K) yet worth way more than that now.... £600K for a mint one.

In many years time the 22B will be the car that people pay a massive premium for, other Impreza models may fetch OK money and still be loved by fans of the marque, but the only one with any serious investment potential is the 22B!

My first own car. In Metallic Blue. Bloody loved it. Fond memories.

However, I always hankered after the Mirafiori Sport 2000TC (115bhp, with the twin round headlights and cheesegrater grille).

I've bought a p1 shell which is currently being restored back to it's original state. No rust on it. It wont be totally standard but I will keep standard items for future reference. It's my project but also an investment. But I will be keeping for years. Atleast 10 I would say.
