That was when it was in service (apart from when it was shortened for jungle warfare, later on).

However, those dates were taken from Wiki -- so maybe not accutate(?)

Or accurate!

I was still using this in the ACF in 1980 .

It was a beast, kick like a mule, wonderfully fluid bolt action, quickly reloaded and was as accurate as fewk. But it was a killer not designed to maim like many modern calibres.

lol at the typo.

What I meant was, that it was OFFICIALLY dropped by the military at around then... Well, after the shortened 'jungle carbine' version of it - which stretched its serviceable life into the 70s, no?

It was then ultimately replaced by the classic SLR (who remembers Action Man? )

But yeah, the gun expert historians rate it highly. As, obviously, do you, having first hand experience of it. Cool.

I progressed to the LMG (BREN) because I was the FNG, then SLR, the SMG before the SA80 made an appearance. But some interesting stuff inbetween to .

Have you fired the revamped SA80 - where it was actually made reliable lol?

Love its aesthetic - looks badass.

How do you rate its bullpup/short barrel design? Really easy to weild?

How does its firepower rate compared to the SLR and the M16? Does it have a fully auto mode?

Lol at the 20 questions.

I did my school work experience week with Heckler & Koch at the old Royal Ordnance facility in Nottingham. I was allowed to fire the SA80 when I was only 14.

If you now say you've fired a H&K MP5, I'll hate you! lol

My favourite firearm of all. Esp. the counter-terrorism 'cut down' variant. It's the horniest gun out lol

I did get to fire the one that police would carry around airports in the 90's. Was that an MP10?

Certainly looks familiar.

Assuming that's an accurate representation of one.

The shape of the magazine looks familiar. I can't remember much else as it was 20 years ago.

The stock(?) may have been an extending one, rather than folding. As I said, it was 20 years ago, I've blanked out most memories from my school days.

I also have vague recollections of it when I dropped off and collected my gf for an African trip, at either Heathrow or Gatwick in about 93/4 odd.

What do the armed police have now at airports?

My armed colleagues use G36's in the armed response cars and the rapid entry team still use MP5's

I've got to have a go at the ranges a few times and have fired the lot, MP5 was me fav

When the police use the MP5, presumably it's for a shoot to kill policy? What is the MP5 calibre - 9, 7.69, 7.62mm...?

If they do do STK, do they therefore employ the "double tap" strategy with the MP5?
