BEWARE SCAMMER: SCOOBYFANATIC33
It sounds like a diy forging job if all the notes have the same serial no. And can't be passed in a shop.I would be surprised if they came out of the cashpoint.also if it was a proper organised job the fakes would be mixed with real ones.
Surprised at a bank saying keep hold of it and deal with police, as I understood it was the banks duty to confiscate any dodgy cash, although I suppose if you don't hand it over they can't physically take it off you....... May have answered my own point there.
Most important thing to take from all this is that there is far too much of this **** going on full stop.

I can only think that with the quantity ie. it's not just an odd note, they might want an investigation, and of course they can't simply dial 999 and wait for someone to turn up.
Surprised they haven't got a system to deal with it though, such as give the customer a receipt and seal the 'cash' away ready to hand it over to the police when reported.
This has been a lesson to us all though but isn't it dreadful that you do a deal with eg. a fellow SN member and you have to take so many precautions that in effect you're saying 'I can't trust you'?
It's not now just a case of counting the money but also authenticating it.
It's an offence in itself to own or be in possession of a forged note ( obv common sense prevails if it's unknown )
As you are defacing the crown ...
Very suspect to say took to a bank & they handed it back ( into circulation )
As they themselves are now in breach & have commited .... The treasury & royal mint do not permit banks , building society etc etc to perform this action
Very suspect IMO

It's been this way for more than 30 years with cash though. I ran a club in Manchester in the early/mid 80s and all my staff were instructed to put every bank note under the UV machine and never take £50 notes!
Have to be careful now unfortunately, One of the reasons I've got both a UV and a note checking Pen, Unfortunate for both in this as we never really know who is telling the truth.
Even paying online is unsafe now as we've seen many a tail of PayPal either with People paying as Gifts and loosing money, People buying parts to say its faulty and send back a different item. Sign of the time unfortunately. Part of the reason I don't sell much off mine and buy 95% of things through a trader or someone I really trust. Hope it all gets resolved.

However, events should help us come to the right conclusion:
- OP has reported it to the police
- Police will take some action (even if it is just to assess the complaint)
- Police will relay findings etc. to op
- op will keep us updated
- SF33 might be contacted by police
- sf33 will let us know a) if he has been; and b) what the outcome is.
And you can perm 1 from quite a number of options.
