The one thing i couldn't work out in all this is why the helmet didn't protect him as you would think it would do, from what i read he wasn't going at high speed, it was just a normal leisurely speed.

The helmet may protect the skull from the impact but it will never stop the brain impacting the skull!

Schumi is at best going to end up a veggie, if they don't decide to switch the machine off and call it a day. Very sad but we have to be honest about this :-(

Bluntly put, but saying that it's a possibility.
From what I've read 1-2 weeks is the preferred time frame for an induced coma, longer than that introduces other medical issues of varying degrees and we all know how long it's been for Schuey.
The best bet however is just to sit and wait and see what happens ignoring the tabloid dramatisation.

What will be will be.......

Don't really think anyone knows what the outcome will be.

The press speculate and they will always find an 'expert' to support today's opinion.

Only people that really know are his family and Drs looking after him and as far as l know they aren't saying anything.

Really dislike 'he's a veggie stories'

Heard a top rated Addenbrookes neurosurgeon today who thought there was a reasonable chance that he might be sorted out to live a fairly normal life. He had seen similar outcomes. So there may be light at the end of a long tunnel.

Sorry about the vague details , I heard this in passing conversation -

friend of a friend knows a woman who was on life support/coma (not sure what happened to her) for 6weeks or months and the family came to the tough decision to switch it off. . . . . .she survived and is paralysed from the neck down. What a lottery it can be , what would you do ?

What will be will be.

I've just read an article on the Mirror online with more speculation on how he's gradually being woken from the coma. All this based on some French newspaper with a source

The article later quotes Schuey's manager informing one and all that the only information to be taken as fact will come from those working with Michael.
In other words ignore the story the Mirror themselves has taken the time to write and publish

Nik.

I vaguely remember many years ago, possibly 30 or so, watching a tv programme about a young girl knocked over by a car.

She had devastating head and brain injuries that left her in a vegetative state.
Over the course of the following years she eventually learnt how to walk, talk, read and generally became a fairly normal girl again, even going back to a mainstream school.

That programme has never left my mind, and always gives one hope that people suffering similar fates have that chance to recover.

It's not over till the fat lady sings.....

Yep, miracles do happen. Hammond recovered, didn't he. I hope Scheuey makes full recovery, too.

OK, this is an official statement by Sebine Kehm, Michael Schumacher's manager:

"Michael Schumacher's sedation is being reduced to allow the "waking up process" to start"

Fingers crossed

This bit sounds positive "Michael Schumacher is being brought out of his coma and is "responding to instructions", according to Sky News sources.

In all seriousmess please ignore things like 'Sky sources'. Sabine has been crystal clear on this. If you don't hear it directly from her or the doctors it's conjecture and nothing else!

+2. Wanted to stab him when he took Damon Hill out to win the championship but wouldn't wish this on anyone and it's his poor family that have suffered for the past month, he's away with the fairies thank goodness till his brain mends.

Unless you are medically qualified, you really cannot say that is definitely going to happen,

Of course such an awful accident can possibly have ongoing effects but I think it is unfair to assume that.

With luck he will recover well, I very much hope so anyway.

Par for the course in this sort of situation - i.e. tube down the throat .

Not good obviously, but actually usual occurrence, so that in itself is not something to worry about.

And as usual, the this has not come from the doctors or family, so it is a rumour. But, as said, it is not uncommon given his situation.

Fingers crossed for the old boy.

I wonder if this a rumour that doctors have given up on bringing Schumacher out of coma.
