I don't think Subaru would let a car go out of its factory with the wrong paint code on the vin plate !

Not sure where that is going, but the car is absolutely genuine. The body stamp confirms it is the original shell and the original shell has always been that colour blue.

We'll never know why that car is blue.

But when folks do repaints they never paint the underneath and inside the rear quarter panels and all the inaccessible places. It's too much trouble.

It is a Type Uk, & I didn't realise that myself until I heard them being talked about on here, only 10 or 20 in the UK.

I bought it so that I could drive it without worrying if it got a car park dent or scuff, which I couldn't do with the RB320.

Ah well, I will just have to be extra extra careful.

Lol David match vin and chassis means nothing we all know that...

But good luck passing it on seens as the model never came in blue and your vin says sliver....

As for spraying the car, it looks oe spray wise with the different blue under bonnet as to the outside panels as they were from factory. If the shell had been sprayed blue by a 3rd party the underbonnet it would be the same shade and lacquered finish as the panels...also your stamps are very clean......it is an original blue shell imo. But it shouldnt have that vin and them stamps..all the signs say its not a early Sti but on the up side you do have its old vin and new shiny stamps. All imo of course....i personally wouldnt have touched it...thought you might have known slighty better too.

He does have a point David. There's no way it would leave the factory with a silver registered VIN if it was blue. These import cars have always been a mine-field and its not beyond possibility that its a ringer

I only discovered mine had been clocked after owning it for nearly 10 years when I had BIMTA run a check. Pity they no longer seem to exist, as it might have shed some light.

Pretty sure the earliest RA belongs to my brother here in N.I. 1992 Red WRX RA confirmed by the RA register as the earliest build recorded in the UK.
Just refreshed after 12 years of ownership.

I do know of this car as it turned out to be a few builds older than mine...
it took a while to find an impreza whatever model which is a lower chassis build no than mine....well done you now have the oldest living impreza in the uk imo as the search was massive and has taken 7 years and still going.....

Ps. Wrong front grille badge should be green star badge not pink also the sticker on the rear is incorrectly aligned and is a ebay copy item the 'A' of the RA should have a rounded right hand top corner to it...that is how the original font was .. spoiler , wing badges, fogs etc. Just to add to wat adam said above....

now wheres this STI 001 ...........

Can I start another topic entitled 'Who has the oldest original Anorak?'...! (Sorry!)

Joking apart, there's some great information coming out of this. Trouble is, I'm starting to hanker after an early car myself, and I can't have one unless I sell the T20, which I don't want to.

Goodness you took that bad.
Any visable mods are personal choices and do not deflect from the car in any way we think. Considering it is 21 years old and has just had a refresh of 100 hours labour by the owners son, plus a 2k repaint for materials and oven time alone, I thought it was worth sharing.
For the anoraks we also have an original spoilerless low mileage car but alas we have changed the wheels, grill badge and the radio so it wont count either.

Right, so now we have established your agenda l'll just say a few things before I am gone.

I have been in the trade since 1964. I was trained every which way by Ford and have risen to the very heights of their World rally cars in the days of Ari Vatanen, Mikkola, Waldegaard, Clark.

I know a bit about cars and the trade.

That STi 001/100 I have is absolutely genuine in every respect. It is most definitely not a ringer and the fact that the original body number and chassis plates are all as fixed by the factory bears that out. You might venture that the body channel that has the body stamp can be cut out and changed. It has not - it is all part of the original shell. I have seen ones that have been cut out and changed, it cannot be done and hidden from a trained eye.

So I know exactly what the car is.

You clearly have your opinion and are entitled to it. But don't slag off cars just because you wish to. Having never seen the car in the flesh you are making and publishing assumptions that cannot be justified.

That's it - I'm gone from this thread.

I'd sooner have the last one built with corresponding tags and id, rather than the 001/100 that was fishy. Surly been in the trade that long you would think the same as every one reading this thread. Any way more pics of v1 sti pls.

The fact he's blown god knows how much money and time on it makes it even more of a kick in the nut sack.
There is certainly something odd with it as subaru wouldn't of sent it out in that colour, if it is infact an early sti..

You missed the FMIC, sump guard, diff cover, exhaust

Love the red RA, unmolested isn't the be all tbh A nicely restored and modified early impreza is a far better proposition as some of the factory spec was shockingly bad Pink badge is unforgivable though
