My Widebody Type R (22b) Fat tyre content!
#36
Kept meaning to make a project thread but haven’t found the time, I have a little free time now the car is getting there so here we go… Sold my forged Hawkeye STI with every intention of doing a cheap project and putting some money in the bank, well that went out the window! Anyway here's what I bought,
A version 4 type R in white neigh on standard (V6 wing and a different backbox) with prodrive front seats I haven't seen in anything else? and a BIG folder full of receipts and history for a bargain price.
I decided I had to do the 22b widebody kit but didn't want a 22b rep so decided on staying with the original 230 white and front and rear bumpers but with a bit of a difference, rear bumper I just had the spats smoothed in so it looks all one piece and the front bumper I cut all the hideous lats out and smoothed, put a P1 style front splitter on and the smooth fog light covers I knew I wanted that took me ages to find! With a V6 grill to finish.
First mock up of the front end, going to my mates for rear arches cutting out. Notice the upside down Subaru badge from the previous owner! Yes I was driving a Ur a bus.
Was pleased with the look, thought it looked mean but still OEM
Came back from my mates looking worse for ware...
It was at this point I started to realize how much work I had bitten off so decided to let the body shop fit the rear quaters and side skirts.
So it was the taken over To Darren Earley paint and panel at Castleford (highly recommended) While I was waiting for the car back I got a tad bored and made this on forza 4 for inspiration
Anyway I picked the car up and couldn't believe how good a job he had made of the paint and fitting all the kit de-locking the boot etc. it looks almost factory fresh!
Looked very daft with the original wheels but so pleased with how it came out and think I made the right choice with all the black lights!
Anyway the next weekend came and I got my BC RM coilovers fitted and my XXR 527 17x9.75 et20 flat silver wheels with custom Subaru centres as I hated the originals, with Maxxis Victra 255/40/17 tyres which measure at a huge 270mm they look obscene also motorbike stubby valves and R40 gunmetal wheel nuts, some work in fitting these buggers, camber and fiberglass triming etc. but I got there in the end!
Really pleased with how it sits and the grip levels from the massive tyres!!
Next job was to tart up the interior with some Bride seats, takata harnesses, jdm gear **** and an eBay special steering wheel(best £32 ever spent!)
Think it looks the part
In between all this I fit a set of 330mm Grooved and dimpled discs Wilwood superlight calipers with yellow stuff pads on the front and stuck with the standard 2pot rears with yellow stuff pads then hel braided hoses and ap 5.1 fluid all round, the setup is amazing in comparison to standard and even other the brembo setup of the hawk.
Anyway just going to put a few more pics up now and ad more to this thread later, Thanks for reading and hope you like what I've done!
