he knows it all obviously, as I said I only use it defrost the car occasionally in the winter as we all know turbo timers are pointless on an impreza but have other uses like the above one where you can leave the car running without keys in it.

I do like the idea of running an engine on idle damages it though

Seems plausible to me. Am no mechanic. I have seen it posted a few times though.

So it damages an engine to allow the oil to warm under no load? So what is the other option, thrash it from cold?

What have you done with your pro-sports Tubbs?

Not at all. Drive it off boost under load will warm the oil quicker would be my suggestion. Am not claiming I come up with this theory I quoted what I have read previous. Agree disagree makes no difference to me a couldn't give a **** what you do. Was just making a comment.

Everybody has their own little methods with their car. For instance, some people don't bother to pull the crank sensor after an oil change whereas I always do. Its just my thing, it works for me.
I've owned more performance cars than I can remember and every one was given a few minutes to warm up before pulling away. I've never had any fail on me, make of that what you will. My take on it is on a cold morning the oil is much thicker on first start. As the oil warms it thins out allowing it to move around the engine far better. I prefer to let the oil warm up with absolute minimum load on the engine.

Each to their own, you pays your monies you take your chances.
