M chip motion tracking, yeah that will make the phone so much faster.

Just repeating double all the time isnt gonna make it faster, and all the apps right now are 32 bit, so without being rewritten for 64 bit they aren't gonna make any difference. 500mhz clock speed increase should help tho, if it can cope with the power consumption.

You obviously didn't watch the Keynote and this isn't Windows, creating a 64bit version is simple with Xcode. Battery life is great, not double, but great.

They still need to re-compile them and upload them then distinguish them from 32 bit apps, it aint gonna happen overnight, and most will wait until it is financially viable. How wide is the data bus? How wide is the memory? What speed are the memory chips? Just going 64 bit will not double the speed.

Keynote? You mean Apples "presentation" of how they will have the best iphone yet?

Battery life has been great on every iphone until it is launched, then it sucks and needs an update.

I'm failing to see a problem here, as much as you'd like me too. The Keynote detailed the new features, in a positive way, it's all in the detail.

Battery life is still great on my 4S, I expect this update to make it better, that's what updates do.

As I understand, unless there is more than 4gb of ram it is totally pointless using 64bit processing, there is zilch benefit, other than marketing spin.

Samsung have said that they will release 64 bit processors when they have the rest of the architecture readied to cope with 64 bit

And it still isn't needed, it just complicates the design really as you then need 64bit wide memory, 64 bit data bus which takes up twice the space on the motherboard for no performance gain.

64 bit will become the norm in time, but it means nothing for performance.

Samsung’s mobile business chief Shin Jong-kyun told The Korea Times: “Not in the shortest time. But yes, our next smartphones will have 64-bit processing functionality.” What that actually means, once deciphered, is that Samsung wasn’t expecting Apple to launch an iPhone with a 64-bit mobile CPU inside it, either, and will now be pulling all-nighters until it’s got its own ready. Expect to see the Galaxy S5 to ship with that chip beating at its heart.

Tests on the 5s show that the graphics are faster than Mali but not as fast as Adreno 330 fitted to the Galaxy Note 3, Sony Xperia Z ultra and the Galaxy S4 Active.

All those phones have a screen worthy of the decent graphics as well.

If Samsung launch a new phone with 64 bit cpu just to keep up with Apple they are a bigger sheep than Jack

I always thought that NSA would crack this security feature, so unwittingly apple have aided the security forces of the good ole USA, or maybe apple planned a mass biometric collection for the NSA??

not read all the way through, but has anyone mentioned that apple have copied Motorola (google) re the fingerprint thing.

Wonder how soon it will be before crimes are reported of people having fingers hacked off

Biometric scanners don't work on severed fingers, not that your average thieving ****** will know that. They also don't read your finger in the way most people think reading a fingerprint means, so no conspiracy on a massive database of collected fingerprints.

64 bit is a step in the right direction even if it is not utilised fully to begin with, recent developments with RAM will see us having a lot more than the norm in the next couple of years.

5s looks like a nice phone, I'm interested to read more about all the specs. I still won't be buying one. I can't justify spending that much on a phone.

If it's a car fingerprint ID etc, then there's *some* point to physical mutilation, as the value's so high.

but for a feckin phone....... I can't believe that your common street criminal is going to cut of a digit JUST to get access to a phone.
They'll find an app (IF they're that determined) to flush the phone.

Or more realistically, they'd flog/exchange the phone for drugs etc

Not seen EE but 3 are £30 less on handset price for a 5c 16gb over what I paid for a 5 32gb on a 2yrs contract that costs the same per month. Crazy pricing. Proper bollock drop.

Looks like a cheap thing to me If you look at most modern plastics and they are called polycarbonate
