That's quite a low figure for the 2.5 with a vf43. Most make 360 with a cat . De-cat should see 370's 380's and some as high as 390.

Suppose it depends on boost amongst other mods fitted !! My spec d Sti is running 340 bhp x 360 torque on standard top mount , 99 Ron ! 1.35 bar tailing down to 1.0 bar . Decat also

True but he said it was "maxed out ". Im running about 1.6-1.65 bar which is about the limit on my VF43. Any more and i'm just making hot air.

Well on my hawk with a ported vf43 I'm running 396/420 but obviously with all the supporting mods... Still on standard injectors and internals! Makes for a great road car, and very little lag

Before it was ported it was running 393/470!!!! Massive boost creep hence the huge torque figure, was a very bad drive. Porting made the car totally different and safe, running 1.4 bar and so much more driveable, best mod ever.

Yeah it was crazy and I hated the way it drove, anything over 60mph and the accelerator was just a switch, either full power on or nothing. It was dyno'd at DSA... Think i may have to graph some where.....

@ chopperman
Regards to maxxed out, all I can relate is the person I bought the 43 off said he had the car mapped and as much as the turbo would give and it made 347.
He changed it for a sc42.
Just Thiught it maybe if some Internet in your findings and research.
Likewise my blob Sti only made 317 after a remap @ 1.5 bar

What would a VF43 be like on a forged 2.1?

I suppose each car and even some of it components are different from one and other. Most VF43's max out at around 1.6-1.7 bar.
This is a BR delta dash graph of mine with a non ported VF43 and running a cat. The graph was done on a hot muggy day with a freshly forged engine that had only covered 1000 miles, so still tight and not fully bedded in.

Thats impressive, especially from a vf43. Looking at your mods it must be the FMIC, headers and de-cat. Plus ported VF. Gives me a shopping list for the future.

I was just going to post this up, it made a huge 424bhp and 456 torques on Bobs delta dash, however more importantly Bob had also done the previous map and purely by altering the wastegate port size and actuator pressure plus the intake setup huge positive changes were made.

Cheers Iain

Thank you, the biggest change however is not so much in the BHP/Torque figures its in the overall drive of the car as I am sure the owners will agree.

I've also heard that porting the VF43 stops the waste gate cracking ?

The main issue is boost creep, on Pez's Sti the boost creep was probably the worst I had ever seen, it was pushing 1.5+ running actuator pressure only on the factory actuator. As there is a choking at the wastegate port the thermal loading at that point will be different than the rest of the turbine casing, due to this difference in temp the turbine housing is continually expanding and contracting at different rates, eventually this will cause a crack. The cracking appears more common on cars that have been modified and driven hard, by removing the choke effect at the wastegate through porting you greatly reduce the difference in thermal loading and in turn reduce the likelihood of a crack forming. We have discovered however that if a crack has formed and is weld repaired that it may reappear as there is already a weak point in the casing.

Cheers Iain

Spec D is a nice car, love the discreet look of them.

I love my hawkeye STi, drives nice, fast when you want it to be, comftable to drive, would love to forge my engine at some point and push the VF43. After seeing some figures on here with the VF43, think I might do some porting in the winter months.

Love the way the VF43 spools up on the 2.5, so dont really want to change it unless it breaks.
