We already live in a big brother state.
Big brother says you can't buy mail order hardcore in the uk
Big brother says you can't buy drugs
Big brother says you can't advertise **** on tv
Big brother says you can't smoke in pubs
Big brother says you can't show open nudity on daytime tv

You could easily argue that it's okay to show **** on tv, and make parents responsible for the remote......but we don't. Internet censorship is coming, once they work out how to do it.

Indeed. So lets NOT introduce the stupid idea of "Digital ID" ?

You are right, internet censorship is coming in one way or another. I'd like to thank all the parents who clearly cannot raise their children properly for ruining things for the rest of us.
Parents are the first to complain, and the last to act. If you were capable, you wouldn't complain and expect someone else to fix it for you.

I don't really see what you are saying and the point about comparing TV to the Internet is a bit of a stretch to be honest. The internet is already censored to a degree, it just is.

In fact, coming back to that TV point you make, yeah the tv channels can and are regulated by parenting if you have sky (code for channels showing movies etc.)

Implementing digital ID's is no different to issuing state ID's and then attaching RFID's/GPS trackers to them and we have enough of that already.

If the parent is not of a mentally impaired state then they should very easily be able to regulate what their kids etc. are doing online. Read, learn, implement good security and track your own kids online movements. It is not rocket science.

With regards Ask FM, there are a dozen more sites that are as bad and people have even been quite badly bullied on here in the past. No need for the ban-stick but better regulation by the sites owners and the parents letting their kids access this stuff is key.

And those saying that is pathetic to kill yourself over online bullying should bloody well wind their necks in as it's not exactly as simple as they are making out - I imagine it now follows the victims everywhere they go and when not online it will be thrown in their face by the same types, for one.

I am really p1ssed about not being able to smoke in pubs though....

It's okay to keep saying its up to parents, but, there are some average ( and worse) parents out there. Don't their kids deserve a bit of support, help, protection, from this thing called society ( of which the govt is part).

What is lacking, support wise, for these average and crap parents and their kids with regards to internet and specific website access?

Support like this - took me five seconds on google to find:

http://www.education.gov.uk/children...nternet-safety

https://www.gov.uk/government/public...-for-providers

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/n...nternet-safety

I'm sure there's a tonne more advice out their directly from the ISP's and other service providers, people are too lazy to ask or look into it, imho

Censorship is lacking. If you have a vulnerable kid who has bad parents who don't care, who protects them?

So everything we hear, see, read should be censored or controlled by the gov to save us from ourselves. Really? Please tell me you are not being serious!

So censorship, you say, is the answer. How exactly do you do that without eroding civil liberties and creating a world where we will eventually have (if we don't already have it to a degree) thought police.

There will always be bad parents, but it's an easier thing to try and tackle imho.

Force organisations, who run websites where people have the opportunity to bully others, to add 'report abuse buttons' and have moderation which is not automated.

Censorship is not the answer and, with respect, what you are saying sounds like it has come out of the mouth of someone arguing for the sake of it or from someone who is amazingly naive with regards this topic. Just the way you're coming across now.

I think half the problem with people/kids these days though is this whole nanny state where nobody takes responsibility for themselves. Health & safety, PC brigades, lazy-*** parents who breed and breed just for the tax credits and not because they give a damn about bringing up a child etc.

But, at the end of the day, don't go on the websites, simple.

Its hardly bad parenting. Most kids are more tech savvy than their parents anyway so could most likely bypass any obstacles. Also mobile phones access all these sites so kids could log on anytime. Its teenagers that are their own worst enemies, how many of those with teenagers would honestly stop them using social networks ?

That's where me and you differ. I actually believe in the nanny state as you put it.

CSW - yeah, teenagers are tech savvy but they are not geniuses. There is always this get out of "oh but kids are so tech savvy". Pah! Man up parents - there's always a way and letting others govern what we are exposed to on such a broad level is just dangerous. As ever, imho

No, but it does not stop me commenting on it as many of my friends do and it's been a hot topic of late! I do remember being a kid though, barely

I do, however, work in cyber security....

I will not argue with that, 'difficult' is probably putting it lightly and teenagers certainly can be a lot of hard work!

I have just seen Cameron the Clown on TV going on about how we should all boycott vile sites like ask.fm. This same thing could have happened via Twitter or Facebook or any social network or forum, it was just chance it happened via ask.fm.

He keeps blaming the messenger and I am absolutely sick of him spouting utter crap!!

Seen the same thing this afternoon, Camerons answer to it all is to boycott the site, seriously he should just STFU and not bother to embarrass himself further.

Only the strong will survive! I know it sounds strange but I visit my parents every Thurs and had this discussion with my mum this evening. She start off about banning the website etc. I tried to explain the nasty stuff said to this girl - I could say on any forum (until its moderated) and single out an individual. If you choose to read them nasty words and keep going back to that site and decide to kill yourself over it then Im sorry - but you aint going to make it through real life. Christ, I took my fair share of bullying at school, wasnt nice, got through it and think it helped me in some sense to become who I am today (sod you all, I'm happy with me )

If they can come up with a way to tax us on the enviroment I'm sure banning a website in this country isn't beyond them lol...

BAN IT!

It's always the first knee-jerk reaction you get, doesn't matter what the problem is. It doesn't help or make the slightest difference. There's always another social network, legal high, etc just round the corner.

If kids can't talk to their parents about stuff like this, then something is wrong somewhere and I'm not sure it's the parents fault either.

I can't even post on here what was said yesterday on the persons Ask.fm account I mentioned earlier as the filter in here would just leave a load of *****.

It involved her loving sizeable mens ***** being put up her bottom and deepthroat from an anonymous person, And another set of questions from a 40yo (seemingly innocent stuff) but she called him a peado. She is 14/15. I think she should ban herself from the site . And why her mum hasnt told her to stay off it is a mystery as all the questions are put up on Facebook.

I really can't see any justification for giving a site like that houseroom on the public internet.
