Can I run Kaspersky from Safe Mode? This is a new area for me to be honest

I have changed my banking details ...... but, if I have a keystroke reader installed that may not have been sensible?
Kaspersky should run in Safe Mode. I would run an anti malware programme like Malwarebytes AntiMalware to begin with assuming you can get on the Internet via Safe Mode with Networking.

Couple of people saying this forum has gone down hill yet all these posts taking the time out to help someone who could very well be trolling ... I think its a pretty decent place still.

Mouser - thanks for your help. I will do some more safe mode de-bugging later - maybe make a rescue disc.

I have searched this Company - and they seem to be just interested in scamming money for worthless IT support? Surely they would have been brought down by now if they were criminals stealing identities ..... I cling onto that hope, at least.

Let us hope that Pete's laptop isn't the one controlling all of those nu-cue-lar weapons that he supposedly makes

Have you tried this:-

1.
Place a blank DVD-R or DVD+R disc into your PC’s optical drive.

Use the +R format for creating optical data discs.

The optical disc must be blank. If it’s not blank, the operation fails.

2.
Dismiss the AutoPlay (or any other) dialog box that pops up, asking what to do with the disc.

3.
Press Win+R to summon the Run window.

4.
Type recdisc and click the OK button.

5.
In Windows Vista, click the Continue button or type the administrator’s password to continue.

A window appears, prompting you to select an optical drive in which to create the recovery disc.

6.
Choose your PC’s recordable optical drive from the menu button.

7.
Click the Create Disc button.

8.
Wait.

The process takes some time.

After the disc has been created, a new dialog box appears on the screen. You deal with the dialog box soon enough, but for now:

9.
Remove the disc from the PC’s optical drive.

10.
Label the disc with the information listed on the screen, and then add the name of the computer, the date, and the words System Recovery.

Use a Sharpie or another permanent marker to label the disc.

11.
Click the Close button and then the OK button to close the open windows and dialog boxes.

You can also close the AutoPlay dialog box that may have appeared.

Lol £299 and you thought it was genuine Microsoft support? If (and it's one almighty big if) you actually have genuinely posted this in need of help then it's a perfect example of the boy who called wolf as your reputation on here for posting **** precedes you.

I just hope it is genuine as there are some very helpful replies which would be a shame if they were in vain and a waste of time for another one of your wind ups. Those who have doubted you have good reason to with the cr4p you've posted over the years.

The price was given to me after the Asian Bloke had farted about on my Laptop showing me a list of hacking (apparent) attacks, telling me that my passwords have all been seized, said 'OH, Dear' about 20 times ...... I kept saying that I want a simple answer how to change my alternative e-mail account!

I got fed up and asked him what he was doing - that's when he said about the price, this is when I realised it was not Microsoft!!

They acted like they were from Microsoft/Hotmail .... and would sort me out - after they had looked around my PC and, to be honest, scared the **** out of me that my laptop had been hacked and compromised (why else would Hotmail ask me to verify all my security info) - they said my Hotmail had been hacked and the passwords sold probably ..................... only my natural tightness stopped me signing up to get their help!!

I'm usually so careful, they caught me off guard I must admit - I am pi55ed off at myself.

Not sure where you are going wrong, Pete. Perhaps the more computer savvy on here can point you in the right direction.

No bother

Finally, you might want to try this taken from a Windows site:-

To create a system repair disc

1.
Open Backup and Restore by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Backup and Restore.

2.
In the left pane, click Create a system repair disc, and then follow the steps. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Seriously consider a Mac Pete, at your age it'll be the last machine you buy, might as well treat yourself and save the stress of malicious Windows threats.

Yes they had remote access ..... I gave them that permission.

I have rewound windows to a month ago - thus removing any stealth programs.

I have run a full scan using Kasperskey.

I have changed my Banking Passwords - well overdue anyway.

I'm thinking of restoring everything to factory settings - but trying to see what I need to take note of to get it running with what I want and need ...... in truth I only use it for internet use.

if I were you pete id re-install windows. its the only way to be sure your pc is safe. you can get a genuine copy of win 7 cheap now. simply pop in the disc and off you go. don't rely on a anti virus programme to tell you your pc is clean either.....

Started doing a back-up ..... after an HOUR, and THREE CD's later the back-up was just a QUARTER done!

Then I thought I may just be backing up any bad programs as well?

So, I stopped it all .... will connect up a 360Gb HD I have to back-up.

Then again, just my Photo's and Music are all I would miss if I lost the lot .... maybe a few documents? And, of course, my favourites!!

Would be better just to back up those?

Whe I log into my Hotmail Account it is saying that I am about to access sensitive information ...... ckick here to send a code to your linked account.

Never done this before.

Trouble is that the linked e-mail account has been dead for many years .... I set up this hotmail account around 12 years ago now. I use it every day.

So, my question is - how do I change my linked e-mail account.

I rang Hotmail Support and they have just led me a merry dance ... they took over my laptop, clicked around and mumbled in an asian accent "OH, Dear" "OH, Dear" as they clicked on files showing lists of errors upon errors .................. he was clicking around for ages, just mumbling "Security Breached" "OH Dear" "Tech Support will sort the issue, but it will take time" ... blah, blah, blah ......

ALL I WANT IS TO CHANGE THE LINKED ACCOUNT FFS!!!

OK, I said - after about 25 minutes of mumbojumbo - tell me what is going to happen. "We are going to solve the Security for you Sir" ....... good I said, is there any cost?

Mumble mumble yes £299.99!!! WTF!? I can buy an new laptop for that if this one has been compromised!!

What a fecking rip-off!!!!

Anyone here know how to change the linked account?

Can't believe so many people have given serious answers for this obvious wind up. Surely nobody is that stupid, even Lewis.

Bored and stuck indoors on a wet weekend Pete

Sadly, I was that stupid when I allowed access ...... I'm not looking to be ridiculed, simply looking for a defensive way out if anything has been compromised.
