yep no doubt the avc-r is a good bit of kit m8. the other way is just an option that also works if you were cash strapped lol. remember and put your origional ecu back as you can do damage running it on the base map on the apexi

I'm not confident the ECU will control boost that well beyond 1.1-2 without the help of the AVCR and the later map sensors don't work well with the Apexi on early cars for some reason. It makes boosting very lumpy and not nice at all Depends how 'in control' you want to be

I have the full APEXI AVCR set up by FB Tuning and I love it. Boosts to 1.4 on a chilly day and tells me I never exceed 25 on the commander for knock when I am ringing it's neck with motorsport bushings all around lol

I've also had the later map sensor/simtek set up and that was pretty good too when set up correctly by Simon JGM This does work

I've not tried ESL as it was still pretty basic when I bought the Apexi, however the new version seems pretty impressive and if doing it all again (as said before) I'd go ESL

Make sure you get the solenoid, map sensor, AVCR and the loom. You will need your mapper to solder in a couple of wires from the AVCR loom into the ECU loom. Sounds like a big deal but it's not Sometimes you have to snip the clip off the AVCR unit too get it through the firewall so that would need solder and heat shrink too.

Good luck

have to agree m8. i bought my apexi an commander from this site from averyp2p and it is a good bit of kit. at the time esl was available but didnt have the features it does now so i went with the apexi. i also liked the idea of the commander for monitoring knock etc. i think its possible to hook up a tablet to the esl and have gauges to monitor boost etc. the big thing for me is there is no knock correction on the apexi which i know esl has. im tempted every time i see an esl board for sale to buy it and get it fitted. esl also does 3d boost mapping which negates the need for an avc-r

i can see its use in a road/track car but not anything else

Twin maps can be used for different fuels, one for 95 ron and another for 99. Or one for 99ron and another for a meth mix.
Maff less is also avaliable, 3d boost mapping so no boost controller is needed and you can also have anti lag and launch. Again, these can be put on a seperate map..

Can't see any scope for the PFC, its very basic. 10 years ago it was a great option but now there are better options which are more cost effective.

PFC does it's job well and a good option for early cars, but since ESL revamped it's offering there is little point in investing in old tech

Twin maps I use, one for go and one for security 2nd map should be mapped to stall and not turn over well

Unless you want to spend more to get less, there isn't a single reason to fit a PFC.

From Nengun; PFC £685. AVCR to control boost £367.
ESL £295.
What you DON'T get for spending an extra £757:

Closed Loop Knock Control.
Twin Maps (full, not offsets).
Switchable Speed Density load (MAFless) with AIT compensations.
OEM idle cruise and hot/cold starting compensations.
Diagnostic test codes.
Brand New Windows software
Comprehensive online documentation.
New for 2012 domestic product with excellent customer support

Furthermore:

ESL Cable Dongle and software: £75.
Datalogit cable and software £186.

It has an almost infinite number of uses including dual fuel cars, ie. 95/99 or 99/99+Meth. It can be high boost/low boost, road and valet map, road and towing map, whatever you want, it is like having two completely independent ECUs at your disposal.

Instant map switching is something we are working on in conjunction with the motorsport features but don't forget this is a fully featured ECU with alot of learned data, which might not be appropriate to carry over on an instantaneous switch, especially if it is a dual fuel car.

They were usable for 97/8 a while back but Spence is never satisfied and keeps adding stuff like the map switching on a switch. Here's the TC, ALS, LC and FFS in action (HG had failed sadly);

I'm writing the secure update routines so ECUs can be updated in the field without having to RTB but also a little busy with a three week old at the minute lol.

The older boards are physically different so 92/6 v2.0 and all 97/8 boards will be upgradable.

Cheers

It's up to the OP how he spends his dosh but when ESL is cheaper than the boost controller you need for the PFC the upgrade route should be obvious IMHO.

You should come over for a go in the demo sometime mate, its got a McLaren F1 quarter mile in it now, not bad for 5k

TBF, I've got the full Apexi set up and I'd go with the new ESL too if doing it again. I've also got a Simtek ECU sitting here
