My pleasure Ty.... I do know where your coming from to on this a little, I got lost with the new age and lost direction myself, when I drove Merv's type r just after he got it reminded me what I was missing...... Other than rally day I've not driven mine since last Christmas when I dropped the car at Ace at the end of December last year
and I'm itching now ready to go, the break has done me good but damn I am ready to get on the road again when the weather changes in some order
and when I drove to rally day it was a steady plod for obvious reasons so I'm yet to give the RA a good run.

More of a why the hell moment Kev, never mind as I never took the selling process further forward than thinking about it.
Well after taking on board some advice given I went to see the car today and took it for a spirited drive to see if my opinion of it had changed.
I took it for a drive on a relatively long stretch of private road and 'gave it the beans' and I have to say I now know why I bought the car.
It handles so much better than even my Blobeye Spec C did, like it's on rails almost and the way it accelerates as a point to point car it feels quicker than my Spec C did before it got broken.
So it is full steam ahead with the servicing, brakes, paintwork and modifications.
Forget my posts from last weekend to this one, think of it like when Bobby Ewing stepped out of the shower and none of what previously happened ever took place.

Today saw the first parts of the car's full service and some of the minor modifications carried out.
The first thing that was done was to get the car up on the ramps and remove the engine and gearbox lower covers so that a better view could be taken off the underside of the car.

As you can see above the underside is in exceptional condition, there is no rust evident and that's all I can think is that the car was garaged whilst not in use and not used in wet or bad conditions. What helps is that the roads in Japan do not have salt used on them, plus the condition of the roads are far better than ours as well.
An example of how rust free the car - the nuts for the exhaust headers to cylinder head studs you would normally expected to see them severely corroded to the point of them being virtually impossible to remove. Just a quick look at them on this car and they are literally like new, no corrosion and as good as the day they left the factory. This to me just confirms what I saw throughout the car, in that it had be well cared for during it's previous life.
To say I am really pleased is an understatement, the underside of the car only needs a chemical clean and to be dried off before it can be undersealed to keep out the effects of our weather, salt and the poor state of our roads.

The above was also found when examining the car, it's a Cusco rear underside brace and the genuine Subaru diffuser is also mounted off it as well.
Some of the more minor modifications were also carried out as they were quick and easy to perform:

Ultra Racing front strut brace was fitted (really good quality piece of kit and far better than the genuine Subaru item).
Bonnet gas rams fitted.
Bosch Aero flat blade wipers fitted.

Genuine Subaru amber reflectors and side repeater lamps fitted, the car would have had these as standard but non standard items had been fitted and weren't to my liking. In this case factory items are preferable.
Oh and thanks to Kev for these, and I will buy you a carvery at the Xmas meet.
Remove standard STi gear **** and replace with STi Duracon gear ****.

Fit Defi sensors for the oil pressure and temperature, coolant temperature and fuel pressure.
Also a good part of the service is underway with the engine oil and filter done, gearbox and rear differential oils changed, auxillary drive belts removed, the coolant drained and radiator removed, all to gain easy access to the timing belt.
Whilst the timing belt is being renewed with a Gates Racing Kevlar Belt it will have a new timing belt guide (fitted with the correct Gates timing belt tool to ensure the correct clearance is achieved) plus new tensioner and rollers. An RCM uprated/modified 12mm oil pump is also being fitted plus a water pump as well whilst everything is easily accessible.
Another thing that I noticed was the exceptionally clean condition of the oils when drained, the auxillary drive belts were like new and the engine bay is really clean and had obviously been well looked after.

The pink STi trailing and lateral arms were also given a clean and examined for play, and I have to say they have come up like new. The bushes are in as new condition so do not need to be changed at all.
So now a good proportion of the SuperPro chassis bush kit that I bought will now be surplus to requirements as I fully expected the bushes to be perished and at the point of failure.
What SuperPro bushes that will be used on the car are the anti lift bushes, the roll centre correction kit, the front and rear anti roll bar 'D' bushes, the steering rack bush kit, the rear subframe bush set, the gearbox linkage bush set.
So things are going well, the car is in exceptional condition given that it's 11 years old.
I can honestly say that I knew I had bought a good car but I never expected it to be this good, with some fettling I believe it will be one of the best newage cars in the UK.
More to follow.

The grime should be easy enough to shift, even for me.
Thanks Jay, yes she's definitely in excellent condition for her age.
She's definitely staying now, I was thinking last night I could have sold her in haste and bought a right old shed to replace her.

I learnt my lesson previously about taking a good car and trying to 'improve' it too much.
looking good ty its like new underneath so you must be well happy with the condition of it I know that I would be and bet you cant wait for next year
been reading and hearing a few bad coms about prodriverules of late
hope they get yours right as what I have read has been not good but most would not know unless you know what your looking for

Yes she does look pretty much like new on the underside of the car plus the bodywork is in very good condition for the age of the car.
I've no concerns as regards the quality of the work that is being carried out, there as always two sides to all stories and I won't say any more beyond that as it's not my business.

Well some further progress on the car this weekend, the engine front end is all now back in place having had the timing belt, all rollers and tensioner replaced with new.
Also the oil pump and water pumps have been changed as well, plus the auxillary drive belts as well and the heater matrix hoses and radiator hoses have been swopped out for red Samco items.
I am just waiting on the full set of engine auxillary hoses to arrive from Samco as they have two hoses waiting to go into manufacture but won't release the incomplete set to me.
