What changed from 2006 to the revised engine of 2007??? different gaskets???(didnt make a difference)

I have a black 2006 STi, the reason I wanted a 06 was the cheaper tax, But also it had 18s, coilovers, FMIC, remap, filter, etc etc so got a better spec then a standard RB320 but £4k cheaper then one, Looks like a RB320 without the badges and leather interior!!

Probably get them somewhere for a few hundred quid.

I hope you're enjoying it - and will continue to do so for a long time.

This is very true, he's the only bloke i know that has a scoob on his drive and he never gets to drive it, unless his Mrs allows him to pick me up on a sat night to go for a beer !

He now has a Focus ST and guess what, he doesn't get to drive that either, unless his Mrs allows him to come and fetch me in it. ha ha ha

(i must add he does return the car to his house first, then we walk to the pub)

Drinking and driving is a defo no no !!

Had a 53 plate and 55 plate in black nina, both very nice cars! The 55 was better with the Dccd and wider track

I personally preferred the drive of the UK Blob Widetrack to the UK Hawk. I don't know what they did but having driven several and owned both I found the Hawk to be harder damped but more softly sprung, and therefore more uncomfortable yet vaguer and less happy to press hard. Weird.

As they are quite similar cars and a decent suspension setup can make them identical, the main reason I recommend the Blob over the Hawk to someone not keen on much modding is that it doesn't have chocolate head gaskets and glass pistons fitted as standard.

Yet a forged 2.5 is a really lovely thing!

There's rather a lot more to the RB320 than just a leather interior !!

Hi there,
I'm sorry to bother you, I have just seen your post on scooby net, I am sorry to hear about your white hawkeye. The reason I am emailing you is I am picking up a car tomorrow morning from ESP in derby and would like (if you don't mind) to know how you resolved the head gasket issue with them? The reason I ask is because the car I am picking up is... A white 07 hawkeye!! So I am a little worried now after reading your posts!
Sorry to bother you but I would be really appreciative if we could have a quick chat regarding your one and the garage it self.

Sounds like if its the same car, you will be having problems!!! Not sure if you have read through the whole thread, But it sounds like the garage had the car back as they didnt want to pay for a full rebuild as you might have already read that its not as simple as just changing the headgasket like most other cars.

Changing the headgasket and putting it all back together will probably be a short term fix, but further down the line you will have ringland failure, and then its a expensive rebuild!!! which the garage dont want to waste money on!!!

If they have simply changed the HG I wouldn't touch it with a 20ft pole.

The car could have damage to the pistons or block depending on how long the problem has been present. If you think about it the engine has been burning coolant and that can do a number to the internals.

My understanding (gets copy and paste paragraph from notepad) is that to guarantee success you require uprated head gaskets, uprated studs to hold them and forged pistons as a minimum. It is strongly recommended that forged engine bearings are also used.

I hope you can get in touch with the OP for a sensible chat about the car, if indeed it is the same one.

Hi all, I just want to thank every1 on this site for all your help today regarding this bloody white hawkeye! Thank god I stumbled over this link on the net when trying to find out how many white sti hawkeyes are left in the country. And thank 'picklemaroo' for getting back to me and giving me the ammo to tell this garage to stick their lemon of a car that I was about to pick up!! Absolutely gutted now because I've been looking for the right hawkeye to replace my blob wrx for years now but am slowing learning that maybe my dream car isn't the best choice to go for now :-(
Need to try and do abit more research on it all me thinks.
Thank you scoobynet!!!!!!

Hi Pete.

This is one of the best threads that Scoobynet will ever have to publicise it.

Not one but TWO people saved from a whole heap of trouble, and more to the point it shows us as a community that looks after its own.

Your thanks makes me proud to be a contributor on here, and no doubt a lot more (esp. Pickle).

Hope to see you posting again very soon, with pics of your newly bought Subaru.

PS white ain't everything, Hawks are. (Cue fun.......)

ESP couldn't believe that I had spoken to the previous owner of the car within hours of putting a deposit on it. They were almost cocky about it and said 'how could you have possibly got her number!?' I said ' you obviously don't know that scooby drivers stick together '.
You all should be v proud of yourselfs, I'm proud to be apart of it all now.
Will def be posting, and hopefully will get to show you all my new toy soon. Thanks again all!
