I know I may be being fussy but I just really want this to look as flush as possible with the rest of the car and I don't want to find that I regret buying it. I am guessing that Audi shutlines have spoiled me too much

If you can either confirm my fears or put my mind at ease that would be great thanks. Chances are I will be buying one for the hell of it anyway but nice to know in advance as have been through this all before with the likes of carbon bonnets back in the day.

Thanks,

Nick.
Hi Nick,

I wont lie to you and tell you its perfect because we all know aftermarket parts never are but I can assure you it will be the best fit you can find. The photos arent a true representation of how the boot will fit, as you can see from the under side photo I only bolted it down with 2 bolts and there is no boot latch, on all the photos I was trying my best to hold it in place but with it being so light and the boot hinges being quite strong this was very difficult. You wont be dissapointed if you buy, the lines run smooth with the car and we are very happy with the fit.

The best thing I can advise is when I invoice for the group buy, we'll get some boot lids out to people and get photos back so you can see what other people think then we can manufacture yours once you are happy

Hi Tones,

I cant see why that wouldnt be a problem just remind me when you buy one

Thanks

Guys I just have to mention about fitting the boot lid.

The first thing you'll notice is the weight difference, taking my STi boot lid off with the spoiler I'd guess it weighs over 20kg easy whereas this ducktail lid alone weighs around 4kg. As you can imagine the hinges that lift the old boot lids are quite strong, these will need to be changed or the coils removed to prevent damage to the new boot lid when opening otherwise you'll have your new boot lid in pieces if it comes open

How easy is it to swap / replace the old springs?
And what would you recommend? For example, would WRX ones do the job?

Im going to have a look at them this week and see how easy they are to pull the coils out of so there is no spring. Im not sure with the wrx ones I think even they might still have quite a spring in them but i'll try get some to test asap

Yep, the WRX boot lid (minus the spoiler) opens itself when using the lever, not violently though. Could probably just remove one of the torsion bars, although TBH it's quite handy.

How does the fiberglass compare in weight to just the metal boot lid (no spoiler)

Still I bet if the ducktail was on it'd be too much. Im trying to think of a solution maybe a gas ram option, its not ideal but at least it'll come up slow and stay up without damage.

Im not sure what the stock boot lid weighs but the ducktail is around 4kg

Liking the idea of a gas ram similar to the bonnet ones?

I'll have a BGW on mine so a ram might be a good option.

Checked on mine earlier, the WRX has two torsion bars (springs) so removing one should roughly half the amount it can lift, hopefully using a single WRX torsion bar should be a suitable solution for these bootlids. I'll experiment more on the weekend if I get bored.

Sorry mate, you lost me. BGW...? Big Giant Whaletail?

I like the idea of a damper also, but happy to take delivery in the meantime.
Am I the only one who's paid?

Hi Ben, just wondered if there's any update on when we can expect the rest of these to get sent out?
I'm hoping to get it through soon as my reverse scoop has turned up now so once the boot lid turns up I can get the car booked into the body shop.

Cheers

Bump? Any update on expected times to churn these out yet chap?
Also, any more thoughts on the revised springs for the boot?
