No doubt this car was not rust proofed straight away when imported and a winters driving on our roads can soon bring up some surface rust.
I just think it looks worse than it actually is and will be very easily rectified. Admittedly I would expect it to be done before being sold but I certainly wouldn't let it put me off a car.

Is this a Hurst Cars benevolent thread ?

I've seen some ads and I'm pretty cynical to be honest.

There's a "Japanese spec Litchfield Type 25" - well that's no surprise, since all Litchfiled Types are JDMs.
It has a "FULL service history" but not just by Litchfield. Apparently "Subaru Specialists" were deemed to be as good - even a positively better deal - "later in life".
A "FULLY FORGED New 2.5 short engine" - despite being described as a 2.0L in the general spec.

It has 47K on the clock despite having "Covered Only 12k Including 3k Running Engine in".

I despair.................

Looks nice to me ( the white hawk) and i'd make sure I dit a deal that took it into account.

As mattyb said it's only a bit of surface rust, i would not be too concerned.

I didnt notice the rear arch rust. Being a widetrack it has arch extensions anyway.

The black 04 Type 20 I enquired about in January - and was told had been sold - is 'back' on there now.
(I say 'back' because every time I look at the site it's there, although now less than the £14,990 I think it was at the time).

TBH you have to be selective wherever you go

I don't know where Hurst get their stock from if it's purely UK sourced or imported fresh from the Jap auctions, but you'll get a mix of quality. For example most people in the know avoid even the Grade4+ from the Northern area in Japan being snowy salty regions i.e the Sapporo auction. They look good but on closer inspection will be pretty corroded underneath

For the most part I've heard ok reviews of Hurst, for the money though you're better off importing yourself

Not everyone will know that the type 25 was only based on jdm cars, its not just impreza enthusiasts that he's aiming the car at remember.
At the end of the day yes, theres a few description mistakes but who cares, if the car is right then so what if the advert isn't word for word perfect. Anybody who was half interested would go see the car or at least call about it.

I agree.

When I was interested I did a search and couldn't find any bad 'bad reviews' of Hurst, only the usual small complaints. In fact the service - airport and station pickup - seems quite good.

My cynical view of traders has come through I think.
If a trader is worth their salt they should be spot on with everything but of course there's nothing like puffing things up a bit.

IMO though someone who describes something which is either not necessary or is not quite correct either a) doesn't fully understand the product; or b) is embellishing the facts and in both cases I personally would be wary.

However, these things go on, and of course the punter's entitled to haggle.

Btw, as above Hurst does seem to be among the least blighted traders, no reviews that would put me off a visit.

As above, I'm a bit cynical about traders and perhaps overly protective of buyers. and yes viewing is a necessity.

But that's the advantage of this forum. It's like having hundreds of specialist advisers when you're looking for a car.

And while no-one is ever totally in the know in the Total will be the sum of all knowledge. (Took me 10 minutes to think up that one).

More like an RB5 'Mk 5' from the work done to it, and it looks absolutely smashing. You can guarantee that any owner that fastidious has looked after it properly.

But buying a car is a bit of a conundrum.
If you can wait long enough there's always a really good opportunity but you can guarantee that not long after you buy it a 'better' one will come along.

It does show what you can get if you do enough research though.

Expectations do differ widely and i appreciate if someone considers a car to be clean and tidy another person may not. Strange how you made a tiny area (probably a few mm squared in size suddenly becomes a huge inch patch of rust). As for the chap who came to see the car, it sounds like you've made a bit of a mountain out of a molehill. The car was under sealed yesterday. It's come up really well and it was literally surface rust.

Pulled the car into the mot bay a few days ago and said "this chap who came over last week said this has some rust underneath. Can you guys have a look".....

so the mot tester got under it and said where?

I said "have a good look". And he replied "mate that's just a bit of surface rust, what did he expect from a car that's been driven". The mot tester wiped a patch of it away just to show me how inconsiderable it actually was. Anyway not here to write a report but just to make a point that it was just literally surface rust which has now been rectified with a wire brush and clear oil wax so everything can still be seen. The other point i wanted to make was a few mm's can become inches overnight. As for the advert descriptions, i try and clarify as much as possible in adverts. Autotraders dealer website does not allow certain cars to be described correctly as they do not have a japanese car database. Therefore will only throw up a UK equivilant in most cases. You'll have to take that one up with autotrader's dealer team im afraid. Max
