Just like any other trade tho they should advise if what you asked for is not going to work, before taking your money.

Should also ask what sort of guarantee you are going to get before committing to this sort of work. Saves a lot of heartache later.

I had it inspected today by another garage, they are going to write a report up for me, What should of happened was for them to give me a call after they started rubbing down, to advise me that to many coats were on the bonnet and they need to take it right back to get a good job done, but they didnt

If i had been advised then i would of payed more, that would of been the professional thing to do from a rep company.

What condition was the bonnet in when you supplied it?

You say you had a new bonnet painted? So I presume you bought this from subaru in factory primer?

Did you supply them with a used bonnet from a scrapers?

Did they do any filling or was it just a case of can you paint me a bonnet,

If we're were brought in a bonnet, and asked to paint it then it would be inspected for repairs or sub standard work, it wouldn't be taken down to bare metal if that's what you'd be expecting. It would be taken down and high build primered.

All depends whatbyounasked to be done.
I'm sure the OP would have asked for A £200 paint job which would be fine for a few days, so this is totally acceptable & the OPs own fault for not specifying that the paint job was to last for more than a few days. Get Real!

I'm just stating there are a few ways if doing said job.

The amount of ****e second hand parts we get given and expected to make look like new is unreal.

For instance to op supplied a bonnet that looked mint, and only needed to be flatted down Bd painted front and back as it had very few marks or stonechips

A
Bonnet in a1 condition would not be taken back to metal or need to go in to primer.

How I'd the body shop have done the filling then they take full responsibility.

The bonnet was pretty good to be honest, after closer inspection today when you push your nail slightly on the paint it leaves a dent, thats how soft it is still.

you dont have to strip the paint off it btw to do a good job but you have to use sealer , looks like the paint hasnt bonded to the substrate,
