dont some people re-route the pipework down the battery side instead of having it pressed against the battery/oil filler? whats the disadvantages of this?

the problem with a reversed manifold is no air con.
not a problem for some but I like mine.

different manufacturers use different methods to route the pipe. doubtful you would feel any difference at all.

Iirc I think I've seen some that have run reverse and kept aircon

Same goes for any pipe work supplied for standard manifold
I did weld mine because I could , but if you didn't its only a couple of couplers anyway
