I am in my 4th scooby now over a period of around 5/6 years and I can honestly say that from my memory I have yet to come across people such as the op has described. Maybe its because I don't usually look across at the other driver to bait them

I don't think it's the car that attracts the kiddies, it's the marque.
Every one I've had (Cat, JDM classic WRX and this one) seems to bring out the worst in people.

Everyone's as nice as pie when I'm driving the wife's Corsa CDTi.
( Now there's a thought - a full body makeover so it looks like a Mondeo or something similar....................... )

I've actually had one take off just as the amber came on, and just missed a car coming across the carriageway that had clearly come through on a red.
I honestly do not bait or do anything.

It happens occasionally when I'm driving the wife's Corsa CDTi, but usually when it's a 'better car' and the prat doesn't want the humiliation of being beaten off the lights by it but it happens far more often in the Hawk.

Perhaps I'll only drive it at 3 in the morning !

True...one of the reasons I run (ran...loooooooong project ), a wagon; no scoops, GL boot lid, equal length headers, super quiet custom 'zorst...straight cut PPG noise is a bit of a give-away though

The way I try to see it is that I save the fast driving for the track. Doesn't stop my practicing heel/toe braking or racing lines. I'm getting insured on my Scooby in June and have waited a good while to be able to drive it on the roads.

There are times when you can be pulled for accelerating too fast and it be classed as driving without due care and attention or wreckless driving.

My problem is people on the main roads not being able to stick to one speed. So naturally, if the roads aren't busy and its worth doing, I will drop a gear and go past. My normal car is a Mazda 6 143 estate. It goes a bit. Makes a big difference to the 1.1 106 that I had previous but not a patch on my Scooby.

My fear would be as one of the guys said previously. Doing a traffic light drag race and being pulled by an unmarked cop. What if the other driver turned out to be a cop person laying a trap.

I prefer going for a blast down country roads, which I know well and can see what's ahead. The Scooby never fails to put a smile on my face.

Thinking about it perhaps that's the problem.

The people I'm concerned about don't really know how to identify a car, see something which they 'know' is quick, pricey or whatever and react poorly.

I can imagine wagons not getting too much bad manners because most people think 'an estate', family man etc etc. but they link 'Subaru' to fast, furious, driver must be a nutter etc. etc.

Never had trouble with the Mazda 323F either, so it's not an anti-Jap thing.

I think it's just human nature to aim high and compete...especially if you run a modified car; a genuine 500\500 classic is insanely quick (waits for Banny to pipe up ), so it's always interesting to 'bench-mark' against exotica. Same theory would apply to a modded hot hatch and an impreza I guess...

The worse grief I've ever seen is as a passenger in a friends 355; we have been followed miles by various cars and in town it just attracts gangs of scooters like flies round ****e

I've had the unmarked entrapment caper done to me.

He broke a number of driving rules (not overtaking in the outside lane, just dawdling, no indicating ) and finally went from appearing to want to turn right to coming all the way across me into the lefthand lane at a set of lights.

I wanted rid of him and took off when they went green and just made the second set 100 yards up the road before they went amber.
He flew through a red light, no blues and twos at all, then flashed me 300 yards down the road, doing 50 in a er... 50mph zone.

Fortunately I had a passenger who witnessed all this. No contest.

Blue Thunder....makes me shudder. It was a Gazelle with a fake gun and targeting turret on the front and was so nose heavy it could barely fly. (It really matters on a helicopter BTW). Poor Stunt Pilot must have had good insurance when they filmed the aeriel scenes......

Airwolf was a Bell 222. Bag of utter ****. They dumped them after a couple of years and put the four blade head on to make the 242 which also was a poor selling bag of ****.

At least it flew better than the poor Gazelle. Full aft stick to even get off the ground then forward it went whether you wanted to or not. Could only hover in decent headwinds as well. No thanks.
