im not sure an induction kit will make a lot if any difference on your car, the standard airbox is good for 400bhp.
most people fit an induction kit due to having a fmic.
i dont understand how having cone next to a turbo can be better than the original airbox as its directly above the hottest part of the engine.

Wing ones in my opinion allow cooler induction air in, away from warmer engine bay temps. That being said I've seen some good custom air rams and sectioned off air box areas using engine bay cone / trumpet filters. I run the APS 70mm inner wing CAIK at 430HP.

I cant see how a panel filter in a plastic box is any different. Not saying its better or worse , but its still only a plastic box.

The standard air box is already cold fed from the wing and through the sealed airbox.
The induction cone is sucking hot air in from the engine bay

The sealed airbox thats in the same hot engine bay though ? My filter has the heatshield between it and the hot parts , so (in my view) just in a bigger air box.

Above is my APS cold air induction kit, I'm pretty much tied to it as it's about the only induction setup that'll work with my APS front mount intercooler.

I've never had a problem with water or moisture ingress via the filter cone but I've still got the cone covered with a filter sock.

Mines also in the inner wing and its as clean as the day it was installed.
If i had a choice though id stick with the original airbox.
But the wing kit would be my second choice.
I dont see the point of one if your still running standardish power with a tmic as the offer next to no performance and require a map tweak.

The one in the top pic of mine with the top mount is the prototype item RAMAIR sell now, as we tested it on my car.
I know you can run 400hp in a standard air box but Back to back dyno testing gave 7bhp gains and showed restriction top end from the standard air box.
If the filter was added to a remap on a standard car gains would be greater again.
Thanks Chris

they are better on a big power car but as i said on a standardish car they are pretty pointless and require a map tweek or at least maf scaling checking so the cost to make sure its running right for the small amount of bhp isnt really worth it.

@shrek yeah looking at it we did leave the standard feed in place and removed it when I put the front mount on.

They way I look at it is, yeah you might not get the biggest gains ever but I'll happily take any that I can and an air filter is always going to help!!.
Couple a filter with a map for example and you may get an extra 10hp and i love the induction noise too.
The smile factor is priceless

Just to add, I can only reflect this on my car.
When we ran the car with the filter on during testing the AFR pretty much stayed the same so the car must have learnt from the filter being on there.
Newage 04 Sti.
Thanks Chris
