Whether you like it or not, he does look like a happy beardy Arab terrorist.
Give him a shave, a pair of jeans and a jumper and it would be a different story. But his appearance is his choice and the way others then perceive him is his problem.
That however doesn't actually make him guilty of anything, so innocent until proven guilty still applies.
And all these public trials of the intelligence services are a bloody nuisance. They need to operate with a level of impunity to do their job properly, exercising a level of quid pro quo with other agencies to get the job done or just plain get on. It happens in politics at the highest level all the time, and there is plenty of internal and inter-agency politics in the intelligence services.
I personally have no interest in being blown up, getting radiation poisoning or being injured in any other way because the intelligence services are hamstrung by public scrutiny or a need to consider someone's human rights when they should be pulling a few nails. I don't need to know about it and I'm not going to lose any sleep over it either.

What kind of a government would we have and what kind of a country would this be if those in power where able to act as they like with no regard to the law and human rights?

That's a neat trick, my turn....
Now I agree with you
Taking a leaf out of F1 Fan's book are you?
I take it you think the intelligence service is all tea and cucumber sandwiches?
The latitude that existed in the 60's may not be there anymore granted, but if you think this government is not complicit in actions such as torture or murder (probably by omission/turning a blind eye as opposed to direct sanction) then you are the idiot.
The intelligence services in countries like Russia and China probably still think it is the 60's.

If a Muslim country locks up people without trial and tortures them in secret then its because they are evil Muslims, when the UK and USA do it is it OK because we are protecting ourselves. When the Russians do it our leaders pretend not to notice. Any nation that incarcerates and tortures in secret with no trial cannot claim moral high ground on anything and is certainly in no position to dictate to others about democracy and morality.
