To be honest we went the recon route cause we thought we would be installing something fairly solid and it would become one of our smaller worries. How wrong we were !!!
The good news is the car came back running Thursday at 20:30. Its now MOT'd, Taxed and Insured. However it runs fine one minute and lumpy the next, we also have a leak from the back bottom corner of the drivers side rocker cover and a coolant problem. David has kindly shared a bit of knowledge with regard to refilling the whole system to get rid of any airlocks ! The rocker cover is being sorted in the morning, just considering what to do about the lumpyness when its up to to temperature.
We're almost there we just have a few teething problems that to be honest we could have done with 4 wks ago and not 3 days before we leave.
I think I might take you up on that offer of a beer ;-)

Excellent news Nick.
David said earlier you had emailed him to say it was up and running.
Does it run and boost ok before warming up? Post the problem up on a new post and hopefully you will get some help in solving it.

Yeah pulls like a train before warm. Then it goes pear shaped after that. Which is obviously a lot as we have a coolant problem. Someone mentioned I should have a purple label MAF earlier in this thread and we have a green label ! Worth a shot I suppose.

If its any help to you I'm currently breaking a 97 uk turbo as well as several other imprezas and am only half hour away from you, I cant afford to be giving stuff away but if you have parts that are no use to you I will happily do some swaps/trades with you and am willing to give you some of my time with some fault finding on the car. The uk turbo I have is currently in one piece and running perfectly so would be ideal for swapping parts over to fault find. Just drop me a PM and I will give you my details if needed
