Smart casual
I was always lead to believe that smart casual was a shirt (top button undone), trousers and shoes.
You could always wear a suit with tie and if you feel like a t**t then remove tie and jacket
And good luck at the interview

As the job interview is for Google, I would say that a clean pair of dark blue trousers with an open neck long sleeve crisp white shirt will swing it. Works everytime. Once you get the job you can go back to your beanie cap, combat shorts and sleeveless top
Forget the suit, smart casual = shirt, trousers, shoes... suit = not a team player, you were told it's smart casual so dress accordingly, corporate companies want more robots, not free thinking individuals, that's why I quit Vodafone.
Maybe in the humdrum world of an office 9-5, but where I come from, suit = smart appearance and keen to make an effort. Wouldn't have even considered wearing anything else to interviews. Then again, I am a soldier, and therefore not a 'team player'

(of all the jobs in the world, it revolves around being part of a team more than most)
